Post [Poll] MTV: The Best & Worst Throughout Its History

As some of you probably know, the considerably goundbreaking cable channel is celebrating its 20 anniversary this year. Music Television arguably forever changed the way that we view the musical business. It was now become a major requirement for artists to promote themselves via the medium of music videos. In the process, MTV expanded itself with game shows (e.g. Remote Control), sketch comedy shows (e.g. The State), animation (e.g. Beavis & Butt-head) and reality shows (e.g. The Real World) long before Survivor and Temptation Island. This is in spite of the idea that MTV ironically hasn't played enough music videos in recent years with more non-musical programming in much of its place:
1. Best Male VJ (Video Jockey) of All Time

This is basically, a brief run-down of the various landmarks so to speak and format additions and/ changes throughout the 20 year anniversary of MTV. This is more or less, an attempt to pin-point when exactly did things hit their peak and went down-hill. For better or worst, things really need to stay fresh or innovative while maturing (but for how long and far) in the process:
*1981-1985
-MTV starts out with a rather extremely simplistic fundation as they primarily feature a huge consistency of music video (although, the craft of producing music videos hasn't really fully developed as of yet) airplay from current rock acts with some live concerts occasionally thrown in.

*1986-1991
-MTV gradually starts to feature more hip-hop and develops more depth and variety with the programming (i.e. more major contests and annual events at start establish their identities, and news and non-musical programming), beyond the typical old music format.

*1992-1996
-MTV expands itself by placing animation, sketch comedy shows, more game shows, and reality programming in attempts to gain even bigger ratings than before. In the process, MTV perhaps attempts to really captialize off of success of the success of its current shows with more of its kind.

For example, Remote Control spawns Singled Out, Beavis & Butt-head spawns The Brothers Grunt, the VMAs spawn The MTV Movie Awards, and The Real World spawn Road Rules. Not to mention setting up major youth movements like "Rock the Vote" and "Choose Or Loose." The channel also delves rather deeply into "alternative" music and the grunge movement.

*1997-present
-MTV moves into studios in Times Square where they still are today. MTV creates MTV 2 which is based primarily on the original fundations of MTV. In the process the concept of viewer interaction his raised a fairly great deal with shows like TRL, Web Riot, VJ for a Day, Fanatic, and the annual Wanna Be a VJ? contests. Most of the musical focus by now has arguably shifted greatly towards the "teeny-bopper" (i.e. bubble gum pop music) culture.

Best Music Video: A-ha's 'Take On Me'. It won 6 music video awards in 86'. It's so great, I can never tire watching it.
Or Duran Duran's 'Hungary Like A Wolf'. John Taylor looked so hot. ( Oh my god, did I just say that??).

Worst Video: Britney Spears' 'Sometimes'. Oh my God! I hate it, it is absolutely boring and tacky...and pathetic.

Fave Season of The Real World: My FAVORITE would be Boston. The funniest would be Miami.
The best would be Seattle. The raciest would be Hawaii, of course. Oh, but San Francisco was great.

Worst Season of The Real World: New Orleans. BORING.

Most annoying type of music: Rap Metal ( Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Korn, Papa Roach, etc...).

Best Decade of MTV: the 80's of course.

Worst Decade of MTV: Well, considering how this decade is shaping up....

>Best music video of all time
Thriller by MJ
Like A Prayer by Madonna
Bad Girl by Madonna
Take On Me by A-Ha

have TRL be filmed at your house. Maybe 5-10-15 years ago it would've been cool to have MTV at your house. But who over the age of 13 (and you have to be 18 to enter anyways) would want Carson and a bunch of screaming girls playing crap videos?

>best contest or giveaway
Weekend at Michael Jackson's

>Best made for mtv movie
Anatomy Of A Hate Crime

>worst made for mtv movie
2gether

>sexiest vj
male- Bryan McFayden
female- Jenny McCarthy

>least sexy vj ( looks only)-

female- Kennedy

>most annoying vj-
male- jesse camp

>Most annoying music
I know I will be killed for this, but I never saw the appeal of rap. I also can't stand any of this "new metal" garbage (now I loved the 80's stuff ala Def Leppard, Ratt, etc...) and while I admit to liking some of the teen pop, about 95% of it is useless and is gonna burn itself out the way disco did.

>best decade for mtv-
have to be the 1980's. The decade that the "M" on MTV stood for what it says

>worst deacade for mtv-
now

Besides the first three ( they are pretty obvious being the majority's favorite videos), 'Take On Me' is such a great video. Gosh, I can't say any more great things about it that I have already.
I can't believe Dire Straits' 'Money For Nothing' beat it for best video that year, I mean, A-ha won every other award practicily....
sorry, I'm rambling now...
