Was this a actual movie with acting, or was this a clip show? I have seen very little info on this special.

The show is just like an episode of the series, BOB NEWHART comes out at the beginning and does a short monologue and says that they are showing it-- just like a regular episode of the show, as if it never end..... its not really a reunion at all, if u didnt know it was such, u would think it was any old episode of the show, same cast, same type of humor, same settings
a very funny show and yes, i do have it on dvd if u r interested email me ![]()

The show aired originally on November 23, 1991, as part of a three day series of shows doing reunions. As one poster said above, Bob comes out to talk to the live audience first, and explained that the show really began September 16, 1972, but since they'd filmed the original pilot in 1971, CBS jumped on it for a 20th anniversary show. So there was some joking about that.
The movie opens where "Newhart" left off....where Bob woke up in bed with Emily and said that he just had this weird dream, where he was an innkeeper in Vermont. Then they switch to the only two sets used for the anniversary show - Carol's reception area and Bob's office. Then the show is a series of memories, where the characters now (as they looked in 1991) look back on some of their escapades during the regular series. There are clips from many of our favorite episodes: Who is Mr. X (where Bob gets creamed by the talk show host), Over the River and Through the Woods (the Thanksgiving drunk episode), Don't Go to Bed Mad (Bob and Emily arguing), Who Was That Masked Man (where Bob dresses up as Zorro), Ex-Con Job (Bill Daily's favorite "holding up the wall" show), and more. All six of them are in this one ... Bob, Suzanne (whose voice had dropped seriously in pitch), Jerry (with a grey head!), Bill (Who had definitely started to age by then), Carol (who had graciously picked up some weight, thank goodness), and Jack. There were, of course, the references to Bob's dream about his Newhart Show. There was also a reference to a dream that Howard had - "it was a long dream....five seasons...." "You were an astronaut?!" Carol exclaims, as they showed a clip of Roger Healey on the phone talking to a girlfriend. And then, as they showed Jeannie (Barbara Eden) in miniature laughing on the desk behind Roger's deskplate, Jerry comments, "Wow! Who's the babe?!" I just got this on a trade, and I remembered watching it back in 1991 once I saw the movie again. Reunion movies aren't always good - there are only a few that I can say I enjoyed. I know this is an OLD topic, and I apologize for bumping it up. But I'm curious, does anyone here have this on tape or DVD that they could copy for me? I'm a big Bob Newhart fan, and I don't think I ever saw this reunion. I can't really offer anything to trade, but I would be glad to send a blank tape or something. Feel free to PM if you can help.
Thanks, - Kristen |

I won't mind doing that, but you will both have to wait. Unfortunately, my computer with the DVD burner is in the shop for at least another 10 days.

One warning: do NOT take your computer to Fry's Electronics. When we turned it in back in March, its problem was a dead power supply. When it came back, the CD/DVD burner no longer worked. Oh, it will play CD's and DVD's, but will not burn. My DD2's BF looked at it, and determined that the jumper cables were probably put back in the wrong place!!!! He's got to open up the tower case and change the cables, but just hasn't had time to do that lately. And this computer has a DVD *player* but not a burner, so I'm without DVD capabilities.
When the young man gets a chance to fix this for us (I *hope* within the next week or so), the offer still stands for all. But I tell ya - do NOT use Fry's for service on a computer!!!! |

Thank you, Donna - I intend to take you up on the offer as soon as you get your computer problems resolved. Thanks also for the advice - I don't think there is a Fry's in my area, anyway.
Keep us posted!! ![]() |
