Default What was the best role Denzel Washington played?

There were so many. But I have to give it up for Malcolm X. He really played that character to the bone. I don't think anyone could have portrayed Malcolm like he did.

His two best were as Malcolm X and as Alonzo Harris in Training Day.

I agree. He should have received an Oscar for that role. Was he even nominated?

I don't think so. If he was, it wasn't for his portrayal of Malcolm.

Malcolm X was his best role, he really took it on well. He was nominated for an Academy Award for it.

I love just about everything Denzel stars in. I really started to take notice of him in Philadelphia. Man On Fire was very good too. He's a terrific actor. He plays a good guy or a villain equally well.

Denzel is simply one of the best actors alive today.

Malcom X and Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter are of course excellent portrayals, but as far as a favorite role, I might have to go with Coach Herman Boone in Remember the Titans. Just something about that character for me.

And as far as completley fictional characters go, I feel that his Joe Miller in Philadelphia is a far better performance than Alonzo Harris in Training Day.

The quieter, more introspective, and reflectively flawed man of Joe is more interesting and well fleshed out by Denzel than that of the brash, dirty, loose cannon cop of Alonzo (who rings hollow in my book).

I think he did his best acting work in Malcolm X. He got majorly screwed that year, and definitely should have won an Oscar. My favorite film that he was in though, was Man On Fire. Incredible movie!! Glory was probably my second favorite.

It's hard to pick just one Denzel role as his "best", but my personal favorite was as Easy Rawlins in "Devil in a Blue Dress"
