Hello All:
I am doing a policy paper on the problem of the government's regulation of drug use in athletics: I have found some information about the controlled substances act and subsequent anabolic steroids control Acts which included the last one that involved the ban of androstenedione. I have to investigate some of the history of this problem and have noted that the IOC implemented a drug testing policy with the 1968 Olympics and suspensions have gone up and down over the years but they have picked up as a result of the BALCO controversy with several olympic athletes getting involved: I have also discovered that the NBA has a relatively weak policy with a five game suspension and a $5,000 fine-what a slap on the wrist. However, the pressure got to baseball as they implemented a steroid policy several years ago and they recently tightened it due to pressure from Senator John McCain. Most of the references that I have found for this paper are newspaper articles and only a handful of scholarly peer reviewed articles. What are some good websites to go to to look for peer reviewed articles on this subject. The general format is as follows: I have to do an analysis on any public policy issue of my choice which should include the following: the introudction, history and development of the issue, stakeholder identification, structuring the policy problem, policy issue agenda setting, a formal statement of the policy issue to be resolved, and developing alternative solutions to the problem. I have to go an unusual route and do an issue paper on government regulation on drug use in athletics (particularly baseball with the steroid scandal and other sports). I am interested in this topic and look forward to learning a lot. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! |
