Oh No Brit's adventures in motherhood

Britney Spears Defends Driving Photos 54 minutes ago

Blame it on love and the paparazzi. That's Britney Spears' explanation for why she was driving with her infant son on her lap rather than in his car seat.

Several photos published Tuesday showed Spears driving her SUV with her son, Sean Preston, perched on her lap rather than strapped into a car seat in the back seat. Spears said she did it because of a "horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi."

The photos show Spears holding the wheel of the car with one hand, and her 4-month-old baby in the other. A person is shown sitting in the passenger seat next to Spears.

"I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger," Spears said in a statement released late Monday.

"I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us," she said. "I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

The photos may have captured the attention of the county Department of Children and Family Services, though a spokesman for the agency declined to offer any specifics about the Spears incident.

"We don't say who, what or if we're investigating," department spokesman Stu Riskin said.

Sheriff's deputies, meanwhile, won't be pressing any charges, Deputy Luis Castro said.

"Unless a deputy saw the violation, there's nothing we can do," Castro said. "We don't even know if this took place in our jurisdiction."

The agency that snapped the photos, X17, said the pictures were taken "in a very peaceful context, in which photographers exhibited no aggressive behavior."

"We believe that the pictures speak for themselves," the agency said in a statement.

Spears gave birth to her son in September. He is her first child with husband of one year, former backup dancer Kevin Federline.

Seriously Brit, you pay a fortune to have a bunch of humongous bodyguards surround you everywhere you go, let one of them drive!

Her bodyguard went into Starbucks and Britney got Sean out of his babyseat and was holding him. Then the pap'z started snapping away and when her bodyguard got back she took off to get away. They were talking about it on The View and could see her side of the story and I can too. I dont condone her actions - she couldve given Sean to her bodyguard, but she wasnt thinking. Pap'z have caused some serious accidents so its obvious she was trying to avoid something.

It's not like the papparazi were all of a sudden doing something different then they have before; this was Malibu, there are nothing but papparazi and fans lurking around. If Brit was really scared and fearful, she's crazy to drive with her baby in her lap; from the looks of the pic, you can clearly see her bodyguard talking on the phone and she could hardly zoom out of a parking space from that location. I have been to that area, and the parking area wouldn't allow you to speed off. She then drove on the Pacific Coast Highway (a very narrow 4 lane, 2 in each direction road) and driving there one must be careful because of the cars parked on the side of the road, driveways, cars exiting from the driveways, homes, people, businesses, etc. So, if she was soooooo terrified, why didn't her bodyguard call the sheriffs??? Other celebrities have called the police/sheriff when they felt the papparazi were endangering their lives; hell, they have called the papparazi when they are "lurking outside their home".
She only gave her statement after someone reported her dumb ass to the child welfare authorities and the sheriffs showed up at her home to get her side of the story.
