Default If you are eating alone in public, doesn't it make sense to bring

something to read so while you are eating in the diner/restarunt you won;t have to stare in the face of strangers or look out the window? To me it makes more sense to eat your food and read a newspaper, NOT A BOOK-lol. Would anyone here eat alone in public without having something to read? I personally won't eat in public alone

It's rare that I read a paper when eating alone in public because I actually like to observe people. Like if I'm at a pizzeria I like to get a seat facing the window so I can watch the people that walk by. When I do read, I'll flip through a newspaper as I'm eating, but most of the time I prefer to observe passersby.

Ok well that makes sense then to get a seat by the window. My mom on the otherhand is in the middle of the restarunt and just chewing and not reading anything and watching people-lol

I just realized something. I have never eaten alone in public before . I guess in school though, if I get to the lunch table before my friends, I will do my homework or something so it does not look like I am eating alone and have no friends.

really the only place in public I will eat alone is a fast food restaurant... even then, it's usually through the drive through and eating in my car, or spending 10 minutes top in the restaurant eating. I won't go to a "sit down" place alone... or at least, I don't have the want too.

i know what you mean. i sit at a 12 person table, and i pretty much only talk to my two friends at my end of the table. when they get up to dump their trays and stuff, i feel like an idiot because i have no one to talk to.

I've been by myself for the past 4 years and recently decided to go 'eat alone'. Went to Chilli's and it was TERRIBLE!!! Got a seat and it took the waitress forever to serve me a glass of water. It was like I wasn't there! Then, finally my food comes and it just felt very strange. I don't think I'll ever do that again.

I could never go to a sit-down restaurant or anything like that alone. I absolutely hate being out in public alone at all...I usually wind up talking to strangers or whatever just to entertain myself.

The only times I'm alone are when I'm going to or from somewhere during the day, and there might be times when I have some time to kill so I go grab a bite to eat. But then it's just at like Starbucks or something, and I sit by the window so I at least have something to look at.
