Default *PC slow start-up*

I want to get my PC to do a faster start-up, currently it takes what it seems to be like forever and all this 'Install Hardware' pop-ups that come up from nowhere makes it slower. The programs seems to be running all at startup and want to know how to stop that from happening.
Thanks in advance

i wont have time to go through everything in that log until tonight, but there is some spyware and unnecessary stuff in there (i love the description for this one item: "An application that is bundled with certain Compaq computers that downloads and displays "Hot Deals" when new merchandise is available from Compaq.") that can be removed.

those "Install Hardware" popups are an indication that you are having a problem with some drivers - if Windows can't load the driver properly, it chokes on it and makes you wait while it tries to fix it as you boot up.

I tried and went into the RUN- msconfig-OK- General Selective Startup but I'm afraid to turn off something that I might need later.

In msconfig, try to see if you can disable the programs you usually don't use immediately at startup. This could include instant messengers and media players (Realtime and Quicktime do this). I have had to do that a few times, and my computer ran so much better after that. Printers will start up at startup too and I had to disable the processes for my printer when I realized that it was bogging down my computer. (I HATE HP's... )

I tried checking in the box that says 'essential programs' but it says that I'm not logged in as the admin (and I'm the only one that uses this computer)..I forgot how to do that.

My HP went to HP heaven...LOL

you are going to have to log on with an account that has administrative rights - log off (on the Start Menu right beside shutdown), then at the Welcome screen hit control+alt+delete twice to get the logon dialog, then type in administrator and leave the password blank and logon - if the administrator account is not active (if it still wont logon) you will have to create a new account with administrative rights, press Esc to get back to the Welcome screen then log on normally

to create the new account, go to the Control Panel on the Start Menu, and click on User Accounts, then "create new user account", name it "admin" set the type to "Computer Administrator" then "Create Account", this will let you logon to this account at the Welcome screen.

rather than just disable everything at the MSCONFIG utility, you should probably actually UNINSTALL some of the stuff that you don't need, but I wont have time to look closer at them until I get home from work tonight.

When I go into Control Panel, my name is under Acct Admin. I'll try that step anyways.

from your log, stuff to look into:

Running processes:
C:\Program Files\compaq\Compaq Advisor\bin\compaq-rba.exe (provides assistance to users with regard to their computer and its operation, and feedback to Compaq - see if you can uninstall Compaq Message Server from the Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel, if not you can disable it in MSConfig)

C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\DDCManager\DDCMan.exe (part of the WildTangent gamechannel software - may be necessary to use the Wildtangent games, you may want to disable it or uninstall the games)

C:\Program Files\COMPAQ\Easy Access Button Support\StartEAK.exe (configuration program for Compaq keyboard's one-touch keys, you can disable it, but the extra buttons on your keyboard wont work without it)

C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\OpwareSE2.exe (Omnipage is a document conversion software, you can disable this if you dont use it)
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\browser\ybrwicon.exe (SBC Yahoo! Browser system tray icon - safe to disable)
C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe (trouble-shooting software, safe to disable, or uninstall the Motive Client from Add/Remove)
C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe (Installed with Verizon DSL accounts, a "Quality of Service monitor", safe to uninstall or disable)
C:\Program Files\Compaq\Easy Access Button Support\CPQEADM.EXE (safe to uninstall or disable, it gives you multimedia functions for Compaq keyboards)
C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPMon32.exe (safe to remove)
C:\Compaq\EAKDRV\EAUSBKBD.EXE (another keyboard extra functions program, safe to remove if you dont use the extra buttons)
C:\PROGRA~1\SBCSEL~1\SMARTB~1\MotiveSB.exe (part of the Motive client, safe to remove)
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe (updater part of the Realplayer, safe to disable)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxssvc.exe (MS fax service, safe to disable if you dont use it)
C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\browser\ycommon.exe (Yahoo Browser-safe to remove)

take a look through your Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel first to remove any programs you dont use anymore, then go back into the MSConfig utility to disable the ones that you cant (or dont want to) uninstall

How many antivirus programs are you actually running?

for the driver problems, on the Start menu, right-click My Computer, select Manage, and then select Device Manager under System Tools (or just open the Run command and type in devmgmt.msc). Look for items with a yellow exclamation point, which means that the device has a problem, or a red "X," which means that the device is disabled. Right-click on any of these problem items and click on Properties to see if it has an error code that we can use to identify the problem.

I'm working into getting those programs out of my computer for good.
On the antivirus programs, I have Ad Aware, the Yahoo Anti Virus and the Microsoft Anti Spyware.
The name of the devices for which I get error msgs at Startup at
SYM WMI Service (drivers are not installed correctly)
WMI Performance Adapter " "
Internet Connection Firewall (which is not configured correctly)

* I disabled them and they don't pop-up anymore, also I've deleted some programs and I can slowly see a change*

LOL! I just have one keyboard, the original that came with the computer had to be replaced and have a Logitech now, a few times it has stopped working so I have to install the software again.
