After this episode, the engagement was on until he came back in that episode where he wanted to move to California and Thelma broke up with him (Stupid), therefore, getting rid of Larry.

I think Thelma would've stood up for JJ as well. Despite their never-ending insult fest, this was a brother and sister who truly loved each other. Same with Michael.

Thelma did in a way stand up for J.J. when Mad Dog and that other thug came over and tried to take J.J. out.
