as we all know, perhaps the greatest stand-up comedian ever passed away on Saturday. For a time in the 70's and 80's, he starred in a ton of box office smashes.

What were among your faves?

"The Toy", critics hated it, it's not considered one of his best movies, but chances are, if you're between the ages of 25 and 30 and you had access to HBO circa 1984, you probably saw this movie 100 times, along with Mr. Mom and National Lampoon's Vacation (I know the latter was rated R, but it was a "family favorite" in the household and I watched it with my parents many times). I think this was the first time that Pryor did a movie for families, and kids loved the movie. I haven't seen the movie in a very long time and I doubt it has the same appeal to a 26 year old that it had back then (especially because back then I didn't realize the racial overtones about the movie, I just thought it was funny), but as a little boy I loved it.

"Silver Streak", "Stir Crazy", "See No Evil, Hear No Evil", Pryor and Wilder together in movies were phenomenal (except for Another You, which frankly sucked). They played off each other and both of them were at their best with the other. I think my favorite of the three is See No Evil, with Pryor as a blind man and Wilder as a deaf man, it was absolutely hysterical.

One I thought would be great and ended up being extremely disapointed with was Harlem Nights. I thought that the combination of Eddie Murphy (when he still had R-rated in him), Pryor and Redd Foxx would make for one of the funniest movies ever made, and yet I just didn't care for the movie. I was shocked that you could take three of the funniest men to ever walk the face of the earth and come out with a disapointment like that.

Are you crazy talkin about Harlem Nights wasn't any good? That movie is a classic. I got it on tape. I love that movie. It was so funny. I like the scene when Eddie Murphy is about to fight Della Reese and Redd Foxx told him, you fu*kin with a heavyweight hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Another scene i like is when Della Reese tried to get some orange juice outta the refrigerator at her and Redd Foxx's house. She asked Redd what happened to the orange juice and he said he drank the rest of it. She said everytime i get my mouth set for some orange juice, it ain't nothin but a swallow in the container LOL. I also like the scene when Arsenio Hall and his boys were chasing after Eddie Murphy in their cars because they thought Eddie had killed Arsenio's brother Tommy who used to play on Martin Lawrence's tv show. Moving, Harlem Nights, See No Evil Hear No Evil, Jo Jo Dancer Your Life Is Calling are my favorite Richard Pryor movies.

"Silver Streak" was a great movie.
In the early days of cable TV in my house, it was like that movie was on a continuous loop on HBO, so I saw it dozens of times.
Actually, when you think about it, it was one of the original buddy/action/comedy movies.

"Bustin Loose" was another favorite. The scene in the courtroom when Richard talks his way out of going to jail was great.

Which Way is up?

Hung Up, Harlem Nights was the joint. That showed a different side of Richard we have never seen before. He was mature, and he used his mind. He kept the Eddie Murphy character in check. I loved the way he used those italian mobsters.

maybe I need to give Harlem Nights another look. I was 10 or 11 when I saw it and I think I was really expecting it to be nothing less than the funniest movie ever made, and I was disapointed because it wasn't the comedy I expected with those three, but maybe if I try to watch it again I might like it better.

Silver Streak. Pryor trying to teach Wilder to act black was hilarious.

George (Wilder): "I don't think we're going to make it past the cops."
Grover (Pryor): "Oh, we'll make it past the cops, I just hope we don't run into no Muslims."
