Does anyone know if there is a way to get back a program(Microsoft Word) when it is lost?
I had to use system recovery on my Compaq a few weeks ago(my computer was really screwed up), which takes the system settings back to when you first bought the computer, and when I booted up again I found that my Word program was gone, and I use it alot! I don't understand it because Microsoft Word came with the computer. It even brought back a lot of programs and things that we had gotten rid of a long time ago, but it took my Word. ![]()

I'd say having a Compaq is the first mistake. Try to see if any of your friends have it on disk.

if the software came with the computer their should be a Word CD(probably an OEM version, in a white sleeve), or an "application recovery cd" - basically a cd with all of the extra software that came with the computer, you will have to find the disk and reinstall it.
You could try calling Compaq and see if you can order another disk, but it is usually ridiculously overpriced, you'd be better off buying a newer version of Office, or try the FREE OpenOffice.Org - it is compatible with word, I have used it for years and actually prefer it.

Is it possible that the software came already loaded on the computer, as I don't recall ever seeing a word cd with the package. I suppose it could have had a application recovery cd with it but with our recent move and everything lord knows where that could be. But thanks for the info and for the link! Looks good. I will try that. |

The only exception that I can think of would be if this computer had a recovery partition on the hard drive - basically a hidden area that holds the same contents that would be on those recovery cd's. You would still have to go through the "recovery process" which may revert it back to the way the system was set up the day that you got it (you'd lose everything again).... but you'd have to look up that model on their website or check your manual to be sure. |
