Default Tropical Storm Alpha forms

I have heard this was just upgraded from a depression...

And, as if Wilma weren't enough, a new tropical depression has formed southwest of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea. Tropical Depression 25 is forecast to become Tropical Storm Alpha later today. If that happens, a new Atlantic Basin record for named storms will be established: 22 in one season. The depression/storm is forecast to move NNW over Haiti tomorrow, then through the southern Bahamas before turning northward and northeastward into the Atlantic.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for Haiti, and a combination of warnings and watches are posted for the Dominican Republic. A tropical storm watch has been posted for the southeastern Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. Heavy rain is beginning to spread into Hispaniola with up to a foot expected in isolated locations. Life-threatening flash floods and mudslides may result.

This is crazy. Another storm! Sorry Brent I didn't mean to steal your thread, it just shocked me. There is still like 39 more days of Hurricane season left. How far will it go?

THe official reason is that there are not enough Christian (i.e., first) names that begain with X, Y, or Z (or Q or U, for that matter) to use over again. Uh, it's not like they have to use them that often. Besides, they use such names for Pacific storms, I believe.

Remember the "Addams Family" episode, by the way, where Gomez and Moriticia deliberately spent their trip in the path of a hurricane - "Hurricane Zsa Zsa?"

FYI: From now until the end of November we average about 3 named storms... so we could concievably see Beta, Gamma, and Delta. Oh... and we've had storms in December before including TWO in 2003. The odds of a U.S. hurricane hit are decreasing RAPIDLY though. 60's for highs are expected as far south as CENTRAL FLORIDA Tuesday. That is December-like and will shut down the Gulf.

I am not sure... they will either

A. Not retire it
B. Skip it next time

Since the odds of having another Alpha are next to zero during the next 50 years, I would think it's a non-issue.

Just imagine if Wilma would have really been Alpha.

Default This is horrible!

There are TWO Hurricane storms coming in the month of October? I have been alive for 21 years, and I have NEVER seen a Hurricane come in October(the latest Hurricanes I have seen end in September), let alone 2 Hurricanes. I was shocked when I went on the internet and the welcome page said, "Tropical Storm Wilma forms. I was like, "Tropical Storm? Don't those usually turn into Hurricanes? Way in late October?( Then I went on the internet again yesterday, and it said, "Tropical Alpha forms." I was like, "We're not even done with Wilma yet!" No break for us. So when Wilma is done, we will be looking for a new Hurricane, Alpha. We won't have any time to recuperate/rest from Wilma.
