I'm very concerned for my future father-in-law because he has been living with one lung for quite some time now and yesterday; he came very close to dying because his lung collapsed.
Is there anybody out there who is and/or has went through this type of situation? If so, please give me some advice and/or tips on how you will or did deal with it. Thanks!! |

I know of a woman who had a lung removed due to smoking. Well, she started smoking again with one lung and it killed her. I may be wrong but I think I remember that John Wayne continued smoking with 1 lung too. Addictions can be deadly!

I've not heard of a lung collapsing without some kind of reason (the removal of one lung shouldn't cause it). I would have the doctor check and find out why it happened. You know, why it collapsed.

My dad has had a lung collapse. He had had TB 8 years earlier and he was standing in his driveway talking to someone and it just deflated. He's fine now, but at about 30% reduced capacity.
Your father-in-law might need permanent oxygen; they had originally told my dad he'd be on O2, but he healed better than expected (having TB in the 70s was basically a death sentence). You can live a pretty normal life with oxygen though. I've seen people at work with machines that are so small, they fit into a little bag. No more lugging that big tank around. |

I'm truly happy to say that my future father-in-law is getting better.
That was a close one. We don't know when he will be coming home but I think that it will be soon because he is doing so much better. Thank God!! |

Back & Forth
My poor future father-in-law; he's going back and forth from a regular room to a room on the (ICU Floor) since his lung collapsed on Sept. 4th.
For now; he's doing better but has a minor infection in his lung so for now we have to take it one day at a time. We still have no idea when he will be coming home. We hope that it will be before the holidays. I will keep you all posted as I find out more. Say a prayer please. |

Aww I'm sorry.
I almost spent Thanksgiving in a hospital last year. I was so grateful I was out in time. I will say lots of prayers for your future father-in-law! |
