Question Question on downloading music?

I haven't downloaded music in years, so I'm totally out of the loop. Is it still free? Is it legal? Is there a site that doesn't have all sorts of spyjunk and viruses? I ruined my last computer by infecting it with so much crap.

What's the latest?

I downloaded Kazaa this afternoon, but I got so many scary warnings from Microsoft that I uninstalled it. I then ran all the scans, and I had a lot of junk there.

I still download now and then. (KaZaa) But the stuff that I download are mostly oldies from the 60's and 70's. Anything more recent require a fee. I have had no trouble yet!

KaZaA?! *spittake*. Wow, I'd actually begun to assume people had stopped using that piece of...crap...excuse for software.

LimeWire's my pick, at least for downloading individual audio files.

I rarely download music anymore, for four reasons:

1.) My music collection is big enough, and ever-growing.

2.) I currently have my entire CD library ripped onto my computer as waves, which are exact CD quality. MP3s are not.

3.) You can't rely on the quality of MP3s. Seriously, it baffles me how bad some people are at the simple act of ripping CDs. I've downloaded tons of songs in my day that sound like crap. I've also seen mislabelled music. I once downloaded "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon and Garfunkel back in the Napster days, and it was labeled as by The Beatles.

4.) It's too risky. I don't want my computer to get virused all to hell.

Kazaa is bad. Limewire is good. Both are illegal.

I agree with you, I'm scared to use that stuff too. I don't think any of those sites are 100% safe. You will always be taking a chance with them.

ARES...I never ever get bombarded with any kind of ads or adware. It is so simple and easy to use. I use to use Kazaa...too much ads, etc. Lavasoft is a good piece of adware/junkware/spyware, etc. remover. It catches everything and I use it at least once everyday and get rid of all the junk it has held back from even trying to get into my computer.

I don't know if there are many sites where you can download free music
anymore Janice,I don't do it because of the computer viruses. I think
Kazaa does alot of viruses and spyware because my mom's friend told
her at work that her nephews downloaded songs from that site on her
computer last year and it got a bunch of viruses and broke down.

edonkey2000 for illegal.

iTunes for legal.

Also if kazaa litw k++ still existis somewhere, its a hack that is spyware free. If you want to use kazaa id recommend finding that version.

I use Limewire. As long as you use Microsoft Anti-Spyware (free, microsoft.com) you should be okay.

And the RIAA can kiss my ass, as far as legality. I'm not paying iTunes a buck per song. My iPod holds anywere from 5,000-6,000 songs.
