Default Dammit or Damnit

How do you spell it?

I don't know if I'm allowed to make a topic like this, but this is a PG-13 site and in PG movies people say dammit all the time, so whatever.

Obviously, I spell it the first way. If you spell it the second way people think you're saying "damn nit". It just leads to a whole lot of confusion.

who the hell would say dammit. the phrase, spelled correctly, is "damn it", and is put together as one word (damnit). wherever people get the idea that they need to drop the 'n' and add an extra 'm', i don't know.

Not according to the American Heritage Dictionary. It's an alteration, but still accepted.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the link!! I tend to put them together as one word, so I just thought I was spelling it wrong. Good to know it's also correct.
