Today was rather..eventful?
Anyway, so I'm volunteering as a teacher's assitant this summer, and today, the teacher awarded 4 students punch-balloons. (These are extremely over-sized balloons with rubberbands attached to one end of it). Since the kids weren't allow to blow them up, the teacher and I had to do it. I ended up blowing three of them...one right after the other...after the other... *gasp* Obviously, I lost a LOT of oxygen, and got sooooo light-headed and faint.... I took breaths in between, but with each breath I took, I found that things just got more blurry. ![]() I ignored it, and continued blowing anyway. That was stupid given I didn't have breakfast or dinner the night before. So yeah... after I was done with my third one, I took out my bottle of water... stood in front of the AC and started to drink. Then I sat down on one of the desks, supporting my head with my hand. The teacher, of course, asked if I was alright. I looked up, and then she told me to put my head down. I did. A while later, I ended up telling the teacher that I had an eating disorder. She didn't seem too concerned, though, which upset me a bit. ![]() The bottom line is-- it bothers me so much when people don't think that my disease is serious because of the way I look... I ADMIT IT... I look like a normal, healthy, happy, perfectly functional girl....... but that doesn't mean I don't have a problem, right? And clearly it's not getting better...so... What's the deal here?? I mean, do I REALLY have to be emaciated to need help? Just ranting, sorry! ![]()

I'm sorry to hear that.
I really think a lot of people's conditions get overlooked, because they look "healthy". I really don't know what to tell you, since I've been in a similar situation (which I won't get into). I do hope that you get the help you need and you can feel better. ![]()

I understand exactly how you feel....that should never be taken lightly, especially from a teacher. Doesn't she know that it's in her job description(and duty as a human being) to care about someone who has a disorder of any sort?
Sometimes people assume things are alright because things "appear" alright. I mean, I know people aren't mind readers, but I think we're more apt not to ask questions if we think things look rosy and smiley. It's not fair sometimes, is it? We're here to listen....change does take time.

Unless the person is a psychiatrist or suffers themselves, NO ONE understands emotional and mental disorders. Which is really frustrating and sad. And people with these issues are really the last people that need to be frustrated and sad, ya know?

I got the same thing Quench. Because of the media, most people assume anyone with anorexia or bulimia must look like Lindsay Lohen, Lara Flynn Boyle or Nicole Richie. Unfortunately they're ignorant to the fact that EDs come in all shapes and sizes.
Its ones like us that have been through it that know what to look for (or experts in the field). More than anything, I hope you came home and had something to eat - protein - not carbs or as you know, that'll just trigger another binge.

Hey y'all -
Thanks for all your responses! It makes me feel so much better to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.In any case, I decided that I wasn't going to bother with explaining anything to her in detail. Obviously she doesn't understand me, so... whatever. She's an expectionally nice/kind/caring lady, tho, so this will definitely not ruin our relationship. ![]() Oh, btw, Cath... I haven't binged.... FOR SIX DAYS!!!!!!!!!!! That's like... a miracle, considering I usually binge 4-7 times a week, ROTFL. Tomorrow, I'm going to talk to the counselor.... I'm gonna tell her 1. the good news and 2. my concerns about a cruise trip I'll be taking on the 27th. BUFFETS EVERYWHEREEEE!!!!!!! How will I cope?? ![]() I'm going to CANADA, btw!!! Halifax and New Brunswick..... will you be there, too? ![]() |

That's FANTASTIC news Quench! Almost a whole week - that's amazing! I'll bet you feel better physically too - right? Admit it girl - I know you do! And I LOVE that you're ready to talk to a counseller! That's just the hardest step - once you take it, you'll be flying! Yeah - cruise buffets can be deadly, but just have that strong will of yours kick in! If you do go a little overboard (oooo - bad phrasing when talking about a cruise ship), remember, they'll also have spinning and other workout sessions. I wish I could hop over to Halifax to meet up with ya, but it's just a little too far from here - I'd have to start driving now!! You'll do great - I have lots of faith in you. More important - just relax and enjoy your holiday - you've really earned it. And give me an update on how the convo with the counseller goes! ![]() |

Not that I'm taking her side or anything, but you have to look at it from her point of view. She might've been caught off guard and didn't know what to say.
