I just a got a new kitten about three weeks ago. Every time I go to pick her up, she never wants to be held. She always jumps down from my lap. When I go to pet her, she bites and scratches me. I think that this is her way of play because she's only a kitten, but she does this ALL THE TIME. Is this just typical kitten behavior or is this just her personality? I wanted to know if maybe when she grows up to become a cat, will she change and become nicer? Can anyone here help me out from experience?

Since she's still a kitten she will eventually become tame if you keep petting her and being gentle. If you chase her around and are rough then her behavior probably won't change.

Some cats are like that. She might tame down as she gets older but then again she may just be the kind of cat that doesn't like to be handled. I don't know how old she is or who owned her before you but it's possible that she may have been abused or neglected by previous owners and it will take some time for her to build trust with you.

My cat used to do that all the time but then again he was a fighter.

What breed of cat is she? There are some breeds that typically don't like to be held. I used to have a Manx that hated being held and exhibited some of the behaviors that you described.
