To be honest, I was never a Simka fan.

I haven't seen much of Simka - I've only seen the one episode she was in, in Season Two. But from what I saw, she seemed quite funny. I'm interested to see how she and Latka interact when they get together.

I liked Simka, but I also think when she came in as a regular toward the end of season 4, that suddenly there was too much Latka.

I like Latka and he had some great episodes, but seemed like 2/3 of season 5 were Latka/Simka centered episodes (well, I haven't seen seasons 3-5 since they were on N@N a decade ago, but I just remember seeing so many episodes about them from the fifth year) and it was just way too much of a character who is best in the background except for the occasional star turn episode (like "Guess Whose Coming For Brefnish" in season 2)

I do not agree. I wanted very much to see MORE of Andy in the series, and he only was NOT because of his idiotic and self-destructive dedication to his eccentric image. The producers later required him to do more, and they were correct. It was for his own damn good, but he was too eccentric to realize this, and to realize that he was in a good series, and wouldn't even watch it. He was whining about being unemployed near the end, but this was all his own fault. :
I wanted to see more of him on TV, and thought it was the producer's fault.
I was also mad at Carol Kane, because when she won her Emmy, she thanked everybody except Andy --without him there wouldn't have been a role for her!
Maybe it was an oversight, but I was mad at her at the time.

Simka was never one of my favorite characters, but she was ok. I liked her better when she was just a special guest star. She had a couple of memorable lines though like the one in the episode "Scenskees From a Marriage Part 2" when she says to Alex "Peel me like a grape".

Simka was one of my favorite characters and I think Carol Kane is a very gifted actress. I think I've pretty much liked her in everything I've seen her in.

I haven't seen Taxi in years, but I remember how cute Latka and Simka were. When I was little, we'd get excited when a Latka/Simka-centric episode was on.

I love Carol Kane - she's a very quirky and talented actress. I would recommend her 1975 film Hester Street - she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for that role but lost to Louise Fletcher from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Plus she was born in Cleveland, so that automatically makes her cool. Having said that, Latka and Simka were probably my two least favorite characters on Taxi and I think the show would've done just fine without them. There were already two breakout, funny characters in Louie and Rev. Jim - plus Andy Kaufman was only contracted for every 7 out of 13 episodes, so I didn't even think anything when he wasn't on. Oh well, to each his own, I guess.
