TOKYO (Reuters) - Two kittens picked the wrong place to relieve themselves when they urinated on a fax machine, sparking a fire that extensively damaged their Japanese owner's house. Investigators in the western city of Kobe have concluded that the fire in January was caused by a spark generated when the urine soaked the machine's electrical printing mechanism. The fire damaged the kitchen and living room before it was put out by the house's owner, who was treated for mild smoke inhalation, said Masahito Oyabu, a fireman at the Nagata fire station in central Kobe. The kittens quickly ran to safety, he added. "If you have a cat, or a dog for that matter, be careful where they urinate," Oyabu said. "Especially keep them away from electrical appliances and wires."

many years ago when I was a carpenter, i was taking care of deficiencies in an apartment building that had recently been occupied when i noticed a huge puddle on the floor of one of the hallways. I went and found the building manager and we started knocking on doors and checking apartments for the source of the water (which was quickly spreading). Turns out it started in an apartment 3 floors up where two kittens had managed to turn on a kitchen faucet and overflowed the sink and had been running all day.
There was thousands of dollars worth of damage; drywall, hardwood floors, it was crazy. When I talked to the girl that owned the apartment, she was glad that she had insurance and commented that she knew two BAD little kitties that were'nt going to get a treat that evening. ![]()

I thought it was bad that we have a cat that answers the phone every time it rings and breaks into the dogs' cookies and distributes them amongst the other cats!

Jesus, I thought my cat was bad for attempting to eat the dozen of roses my boyfriend gave me.
I'm glad the kittens are okay, though. Phew.

First.... people shouldn't still be using fax machines.
And second.... cats are dumb pets. Two wrongs DONT make a right. |
