I don't if this one's been posted, maybe.

Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground) by Mike and The Mechanics. It's what I'd call a "partial" one.

Because while the word "running" is repeated throughout the song the words "silent" or "on dangerous ground" are nowhere in the lyrics. I don't know why it's got the parenthetical title of On Dangerous Ground since that's not in the song at all.

Flagpole Sitta by the band Harvey Danger. Harvey Danger was a "one hit wonder" with this song. Although there's a line in it that goes "I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes" or something like that. But "flagpole sitta" is nowhere in the song but the whole thing is quite nonsensical anyways.

I was going to say that - because I currently have the promotional video as my Music Video Of the Week on my blog! It's a song raging against stupidity, generally. They were a great band, and they lasted until 2009. "Flagpole Sitta" was the single from their 1997 debut album.

"Been around the world and found that only stupid people are breeding, the cretins cloning and feeding, and I don't even own a TV!"

Yeah I get that now. I think the song can be kind of funny but in a rather juvenile sort of way and I just don't like it, not my thing. I was 28 the year the song was released so I'm not that much older than the band members were. But it's not something I can relate to, I just see the word differently than that.

Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega.

Just a bunch of disjointed observations by some woman in a diner/café. One of the most boring and pointless songs ever.

I Beg Your Pardon by Kon Kan.

I'd actually forgotten about this song. But for some reason it popped into my head today though I haven't heard it in years. Kon Kan was a synthpop Canadian duo and also a "one hit wonder" (here in America anyways) with this song, if I remember it was released in 89 or 90. I remember that the two guys in the band said it was an "answer song" to Lynn Anderson's early 70s country hit I Never Promised You A Rose Garden. And while "I beg your pardon" is actually some of the lyrics to Anderson's song they're never mentioned in this one. At the time it was released originally I liked it but I found it on YouTube earlier today and listened to it again. And honestly I'd have to say that I think I Beg Your Pardon definitely sounds dated to me today, it has a very "80s" sound to it and I don't like it as much as I did when I was younger although I still love lots of 80s songs. The song also samples some of Anderson's vocals from I Never Promised You A Rose Garden (with a weird echo effect added in), along with several other samples from other songs. Later the year it was released Lynn Anderson sued the band and their record company when she found out about her voice being sampled because they hadn't gotten her permission first before they did it. I believe she won her lawsuit but I don't know if any other artist sued them for sampling their work or whatever happened to the band since then. Still it's an all right song.
