Well, the first couple lines read, "Down around the corner, half a mile from here, you see them long trains runnin' and you watch 'em disappear....", but I guess that is not technically the title being mentioned.

Sorry, That's incorrect. The line is old trains runnin.'

Long Train Runnin’
Tom Johnston

Down around the corner
A half a mile from here
You see them old trains runnin’
And you watch them disappear
Without love
Where would you be now
Without love You know I saw Miss Lucy
Down along the tracks
She lost her home and her family
And she won’t be comin’ back
Without love
Where would you be now
Without love

Well the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central Freight
Gotta keep on pushin’ Mama
‘Cause you know they’re runnin’ late
Without love
Where would you be now - now, now, now
Without love

Where pistons keep on churnin’
And the wheels go ’round and ’round
And the steel rails are cold and hard
For the miles that they go down
Without love
Where would you be right now
Without love
Where would you be now

Where? I'm curious. I remember hearing it over the PA system at Meijer (a grocery store chain), and I do not recall those words being said.

Actually, the song starts out "Oh what a night ... late December 1963".

Tweety's right.

Oh, what a night
Late December back in sixty-three
What a very special time for me
As I remember what a night.

Oh, what a night
You know I didn't even know her name
But I was never gonna be the same
What a lady, what a night.

Oh I, I got a funny feelin' when she walked in the room
Yeah my, as I recall it ended much too soon.

Oh, what a night
Hypnotizin', mesmerizing me
She was ev'rything I dreamed she'd be
Sweet surrender, what a night.

I felt a rush like a rollin' ball of thunder
Spinnin' my head around 'n' takin' my body under
Oh what a night.

Oh I, I got a funny feelin' when she walked in the room
Yeah my, as I recall it ended much too soon.

Oh what a night, why'd it take so long to see the light
Seemed so wrong, but now it seems so right
What a lady, what a night.

Oh, I felt a rush like a rollin' ball of thunder
Spinnin' my head around 'n' takin' my body under
Oh what a night (do do do do do, do do do do do)

Oh what a night (do do do do do, do do do do do)
Oh what a night (do do do do do, do do do do do)
Oh what a night (do do do do do, do do do do do).

To me "back in" in the song sounded like "nineteen". Oh, well, I learn something new every day!

I double-checked the lyrics before I made the post, here's the link I found:

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/d/debbie+..._20038545.html

Verse 2:
When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around (turn around)
And tell you so.
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart.

And I included the December 1963 song becuase the exact title wasn't mentioned, even though they do say "late December back in '63".

Thanks for posting the lyrics to "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," this was the last lyric I couldn't figure out.

Strange how someone would have a fond memory of any kind of the month after the JFK assassination, which was such a bummer Christmas almost got canceled.

I don't know if this song was mentioned, but isn't Led Zeppelin's "Trampled Under Foot' - which vaguely sounds like "Long Train Runnin'"- a song that doesn't include the title in the lyrics?

"No One To Depend On" - Santana (1972)

Last edited by James : 03-15-2009 at 12:33 PM. Reason: to add the title "Here's another one" to let the viewer know we're back to the subject at hand
