Default Today - May 24 2005 was the saddest day in soap history

Oh My God, when Cassie Newman flatlined on Young and the Restless at the end today, that had to be the saddest moment in Y & R history and frankly in my opinion the history of soaps.

I literally have been crying all day. Camryn Grimes (Cassie) as been a part of the Y & R family since March 1997, she was only 7 years old when she debuted. And to make it even more sad was showing all the precious clips of young Cassie, my gosh she was such a bright, intelligent, mature child in those early clips. She was such an asset to Y & R.

My theory as to the true meaning of her death is that the writers felt Cassie was aging Nick and Sharon. I mean in three years Cassie would have been in college and Nick and Sharon are still being portrayed as the sexy young couple, notice how the writers have not aged Noah, whom was born in April 1997, he is still about 8 years old, on the Bold and the Beautiful they aged Ridge and Taylor's twins to 15 recently and they were born in 2000. The reason, both Ridge and Taylor are old and are definately beginning to show it. Nick and Sharon are still very young looking, even though they are both in there early 30s. Another reason is maybe the writers felt Cassie was not sexy enough for today's soap teens, Cassie was so cute as a young girl, but perhaps the writers thought Cassie was not going to be the hottie that a lot of young soap teens portray. A recast would have been impossible since no one else would seem right as Cassie.

Anyway it was a very tragic day in the world of soaps.

Very, very stupid move on the part of Y&R.

Cassie was sacrificed because of two characters most Y&R fans don't care about, Sharon and Nick.

Jack Smith was quoted in a magazine in saying Cassie was killed off " to move Sharon and Nick into a new direction without using the infedility(sp?) angle.

Also, seeing Daniel being wrongly accused/imprisoned, is not something I am interested in watching. And with Y&R's pace, this will drag on for months.

IMO, this is worse than B&B bring Taylor back from the dead.

Also, Sharon and Nick already had a child die.

I actually have faith in the writers to take this one somewhere. They wouldn't kill off a character who has been part of the show for so many years just for the sake of Nick and Sharon. Yes, that is probably a big part of it, but there have got to be other motives.

Maybe Prince Omar made a stop in Genoa City and took Cassie off to his palace.

There is always hope.

There is also a rumor on another message board that Cassie has a twin sister that was adopted by a wealthy powerful rich family, that would make the Newman's look weak. The writers hinted this when Cassie said that Nick and Sharon will have another daughter.

Ok, I hope that is just a rumor. That would be ridiculous. I personally thought the writers were hinting that Sharon is/will become pregnant. I hope they keep this realistic, and not go the twin route. I know the writers haven't been the best lately, but I have a little more faith in them than that.

I have the feeling we have not seen the last of Camryn Grimes. So I think that Cassie has a twin out there.

I was just thinking that when I read that post. That would make Cassie's death meaningless as well as all the pain we went through watching it and watching her family go through it. They shouldn't destroy that feeling by doing something that stupid, regardless of how sad it was.

Exactly. They wouldn't have put that much drama into it just to bring on a twin. That doesn't even make sense. I mean, come on, this is Y&R, not Passions. They aren't that stupid.

They didn't hire any writers from Passions recently, did they? I hope not.

Although I haven't read anything about a twin; what is so ridiculous about it compared to what they have already shown?

You had 1. Cassie being able to sneak out without nobody noticing 2. Hardly nobody looking for Cassie and 3. I'm sure more unrealism that I can't think of right now.

That being said, I don't believe the writers are considering a twin story. In the future, you never know.

It seems like they have!

Look at what they are doing to Ashely, hooking her up with Kevin's father. And I told you about John Abbott forgiving Gloria that is already happening. The writing on this show has gotten pretty bad. But you also have to remember that nothing really tragic has happened to anyone on this show in a long time, so I guess this was the shake up on the show, besides bringing in Kevin's father. At this point who knows where this is going because Cassie is dead and now Daniel is going to jail unless Cassie speaks from the grave. Nick is on fire and out for blood.

I missed today's episode(I know, shame, shame, shame! ). Does Nick still blame Daniel? I thought for sure I saw Cassie whisper something to Nick before she died. Or maybe he does not believe it.

I've been home this week so I can see it. Yeah he blames Daniel, because he was at the gym talking to Bobby and he told Bobby that Daniel Romaloti is responsible or has his daughters blood on his had (something like that). Nick was also talking with Lily and he asked her if Daniel knew about Cassie.

yeah its sad. but not the saddest day in the history of soaps. for me, a much sadder moment was/is the death of "AMC's" Phoebe Tyler Wallingford, who had been a part of the AMC cast since the early 1970s. much sadder than the death of a character that had only been on since 1997.
