Pearl up and married this old geezer against the very loud objections of Mary. Then she came back the next day after the honeymoon and told Mary her new husband had DIED on their honeymoon with as much emotion as finding out a friend had gotten a parking ticket. I mean, no tears, hesitation or nothing!
I know the show's supposed to be a comedy but there WERE times it got serious (e.g. Calvin's friend proving to be a drugdealer who got killed by a gang member) so why would it have been out of order to show Pearl getting at least a little upset over this? She didn't change her tone of voice when she told Mary of what happened and Mary didn't either much less offer a hug. ALL that happened was Pearl said he married her because he was old and lonely and she understood where he was coming from- to which Mary said that her FRIENDS would in the building would keep her from being old and lonely. The end. And, no further mention ever of Pearl's last husband much less her being griefstricken! ![]() |
