Default Does anyone else think this show is depressing ?

I dont mean to disrespect Cheers fans, if you like the show, thats great.

But I dont like this show because it just depresses me. It takes place in the most unappealing setting imaginable- a bar. And in Boston. And everyone is always putting each other down. Its ok once in awhile, but basically the whole comedy in Cheers is just that- put downs. Thats what it is. And the characters are kind of losers and they dont want to amount to much. And they just sit there.

I just dont get it.

How many episodes have you actually watched? It's all about deep comedy using you brain to think below put downs. Underneath these characters rough extirior they are warm kind and loving. The writing is also comidic genius! I guess you're entitled to your own opinion.

Cheers never depressed me. I think the comedy is classic and it speaks to the average person.

Cheers isn't the least bit depressing. There are episodes that are sad, but that comes with every sitcom.

The bar is sort of their haven from life. The characters being sort of losers made them more endearing and relatable. If you don't understand that, then there's no use trying to explain anything about Cheers to you. Just don't watch the show.

Hardly depressing.

And what's wrong with Boston?? I've never been, but have had friends who've visited and they say it's a beautiful city. I found that just with some of the scenes from Ally McBeal too.

Speaking as someone who is known to spend alot of time in bars, I can honestly say that bars are far from depressing.
The bar my roommate and I frequent is a fun place, full of nice people who I have a great time with. I have developed some good friendships with the staff and fellow patrons, and we often do some activities outside the bar, like go to games or play golf.

Here is a link to the website of this bar. If you look around you'll see some contributions from a certian guy named TJL.

I'm featured in a few pics, but I'm not too thrilled with them.

I don't photograph well when I'm half in the bag.
