Doesn't work AT ALL! None of them do!

Anytime you see the itty-bitty tiny print at the bottom of their ads (which they all have to by law) that says, "When used in combination of a balanced diet and exercise" you know its not the product that works - its the diet and exercise!!

So safe yourself the time, trouble and possible lethal side effects (as they usually do end up yanking them off the market after a couple of years) and just go the old fashioned, hard work route - diet and exercise!

Very good advice! Remember.......... If it sounds too good to be true it probably is!

Diet pills are great...if you want to have a heart attack or something. I assume you're young, so just get out and move.

Ephedra/Ephedrine/MaHuang
CNS stimulant chemically related to amphetamine. Naturally extracted from the aerial and root parts of the ephedrine plant (ephedra sinica). Stimulates the nervous system and increase heart & breathing rate. Stimulates the release of dopamine and has a reuptake inhibiting effect. Increases metabolism. Dialates the blood vessels.
Uses - diet aid, stimulant/energy-alertness aid, bronchial/upper-respiratory/asthma
History - used for years in oriental medicine, medical use in US begain in early twentieth century. Originally prescribed and used as a decongestant, however , newer, and safer deritivates such as phenylpropanolamine (PPA), and pseudoephedrine have been developed. Still sold OTC as an asthma aid. Since the 1994 DSHEA law, which put sent all herbs OTC and out of FDA control, it has become increasingly popular as a diet aid and recreational stimulant. Concerns over safety lead to stricter regulation a final FDA ban in April of 2004, however it can still be found on various online sites.
side effects - vary from person to person and can be extremely unpredictable.
These range from the jitters associated from one to many cups of coffee to cardiac arrithmea, unsafe blood pressure levels, and death. A recent study by German health authorities (herbs are not studied extensively in the US), showed that when taken by a person with no heart or cardiac ailments, ephedra produces only a minimal rise in blood pressure levels, but when taken by a person with even minimal hypertension, blood pressure can become unsafe and lead to other problems very quickly. It is impossible to know this beforehand, which is one of the reasons that the herb's safety is extremely debatable.

Guarana/Kola Nut
Herbs/plants used for their residual pressence of Caffeine. The Kola Nut is the source for the Caffeine found in Coke and other soft drinks. Guarana also contains the milder Caffeine relatives Theombromine and Theophyline, both of which belong to a group of chemical stimulants known as the methylxanthines. The effects of the herbs are just like coffee, but on a much broader scale. Side effects vary from person to person, but would, again, be very much like too much coffee. Caffeine also has been known to produce a mild diuretic effect.

Ginseng
An herb used for its mild overall stimulant effect. Ginseng comes in many forms, Siberian being the mildest, with the Korean Panax and Chinese Red Panax varieties being the strongest. It is really unknown HOW Ginseng works, mainly because of the lack of significant research on it, but many people who take it report an overall stimulant effect, which comes out in the form of a "better sense of well-being". Ginseng has been used for thousands of years, originating in Chinese and oriental medicine, and has a great reputation for safety. Most people who take it as directed experience no side effects. However, a large overdose has been known to produce a rare condition called Ginseng Toxicity, with symptoms such as nervousness, anxiety, and rapid heartbeat.

Ginger Root
An herb mainly used for its stomach calming properties, it's presented here for its mild stimulant effect. Yes, Ginger, when taken at the proper dosage (not Ginger Ale, but the real thing), produces a mild stimulant effect. It is more subtle and less noticeable than that of Caffeine, but can still be felt. Ginger acts on the central nervous system, which is why it is also responsible for calming the stomach down. Ginger has no known side effects.

Most of the other things in there are also stimulants (ie, Licorice, Orange Peel-citris arauntium).

The Chromium is there to manage sugar, however it really isn't helpful if you aren't diabetic or you don't have a Chromium deficiency (you do take a good-quality multivitamin with Chromium, right?).

Yes, you may loose a few pounds, especially if combined with some excercise program, but there are much safer alternatives out there that don't have Ephedra, or at least don't combine ephedra with caffeine & ginseng. This is very dangerous. I've read alot on ephedra and I wouldn't take it, at least, not right now.

Ephedria (Ma huang) is the stuff that can cause heart attacks and strokes - especially when used in a "stack" (combined with caffeine and codiene).

Trust me - I was on a stack (Thermadrine - since have changed the formula)for a couple of years with my husband when we were weight lifting. Not good stuff. Gives you the shakes and makes your heart race.

DO NOT BUY THIS SH*T!

Codeine!!!!

That's a new one.

Stacking was (and I'm sure still is) very common. However, most products use the combination of Aspirin/Ginseng/Ephedra or Aspirin/Caffeine/Ephedra (or some ephedrine alternative), especially now.

Most of the DEATHS linked with ephedrine are related to the combination with some other product. Not a good thing.

Defenitely look elsewhere.

However I do wish the FDA would fund studies for this stuff rather than just make it available freely and then ban it when the first sign of trouble comes. You don't find new medicines that way.

I don't know - look at all the stir lately around arthritis drugs and that. Its crazy, I was on high doses of one of the drugs for a good 8 yrs - especially while also being on the pill - which I now find out was an incredibly deadly combination! I must have incredible stamina or luck! Its scary how more and more it seems you hear of stuff being released and then years later even it comes out that there's a high occurrance of deaths or devestating side effects.

Don't use that kind of stuff I used Stacker 2 ONE time and it messed me up ever since. Now and then I get horrible hot flashes and nausea and I never had it before I took those and this was before I had my surgery so it has nothing to do with that. That's all it took was one time and it's messed me up since then. It's not worth it if you want to lose weight see your Dr he can help you.
