The city of Lynbrook, and Ray's salary.

How far away is Lynbrook from New York City? I have never been there, but Long island seems to be a fairly large piece of land. It seems that it would be a long commute everyday to Ray and Robert's jobs.
The houses pictured are from the city of Merrick NY, a town not too far away. How much would Ray's house be worth on the open market? It seems that Debra wants to move out of that house to get away from her in laws, and are saving money to do this.
Which is cheaper and best to raise a family in Ray's Universe, Queens, New Jersey, Connecticut or Long Island? He alluded in the 1st season (1995) that he made about 50,000 USD a year, but lets say he got promoted to senior writer making 75K a year, could they move anywhere else?
