Default my friend is organizing a boycott for a local radio station

yesterday morning on the local KISS-FM station, one of the on air personalities made a controversial statement that people who are overweight should not go out in public to eat because it's disgusting. One skinny person called and told the DJ she didn't agree with what he said, and then he accused her of being a bulimic!

I don't consider myself fat or skinny (I am in the 180's, which makes me middle of the road), but I support my friends' boycott and would sign a petition because it is people like this DJ who is a major reason why a lot of overweight people have such low self-esteem, and why a lot of bigger people turn to eating disorders to try to lose weight. Hell, I'll even admit at one point I tried bulimia to lose some of the weight I have, I know it's wrong and was stupid, but the media puts such a pressure on people to be thin that if you're more than 5 lbs over the standard, you're as good as Ralphie May.

I think people should boycott the station until the DJ makes an on-air apology, because he forgets he is probably alienating a large chunk of his audience. I barely listen to that station anyways (too much rap), but he forgets that the market for his station isn't just anorexic modelesque 16 year old girls.

I would think that he is alienating quite a bit of the population in that more then half of Americans are overweight to some degree. I have to say that I have seen quite a few skinny people eating out in public that have displayed disgusting behavior. And I have seen overweight people eating in public that have showed very good behavior. This DJ is offering a very stereotypical opinion of people who are overweight. I can totally agree why you took offense to this guy's word. They are very offensive.

I agree with you, but those weren't exactly the best words you could have used.

That's an excellent point, Cathy. What makes you think the DJ himself is fat? I was thinking that very same thing myself. While the DJ was saying all this garbage he was probably eating a big sticky cinnamon bun, dropping crumbs all over himself, getting icing all over the controls. He probably then finished by wipping his hands on his shirt or something.

Probably. It's easy to hide when you're behind a microphone instead of in front of a TV camera.

Come on out, Mr. Perfect!! Show us all your perfection.

screw the boycott - call the station manager to complain and threaten to start writing letters to their advertisers - you know, the ones that pay to have their commercials aired so that they can sell their products to the fat, skinny and in-between...

I hope everybody who heard those comments complains loudly. These kinds of comments can get someone killed like Karen Carpenter. A critic said that she was chubby (and she wasn't), she developed anorexia nerviousa as a result of her being too self-concious over her weight, and died at a young age. These kinds of comments can push someone in that kind of direction. Tell him about what happened to Karen Carpenter.

Best and most effective idea of all! Especially if they're food or beer sponsors!!!
