Default Bagdad Cafe

Anybody remember this comedy show? It starred Whoopi Goldberg and Jean Stapleton. It aired back in 1990 on CBS on Friday nights. I was watching this every week until Whoopi called it quits from the show. It was set in an Arizona desert and I think Whoopi was a restaurant owner and Jean Stapleton crashed upon Whoopi and they became partners or something. The show was a modest hit. This comedy wasn't bad. Matter of fact, It premiered around the time Wings did. I thought Wings wouldn't last. Bagdad Cafe I thought would.

Default YES!!

I do remember this show VERY fondly...I even remember some INTERVIEWS that Jean and Whoopi did...

I would LOVE It...HINT HINT (if Miss Goldberg reads the forums...) that her One Ho productions put out THAT, her talk show and Whoopi on DVD and allow us, the fans to have some of her great moments like these...

I will ALWAYS remember her interview with Charles Shultz...

Anyway, great thread, great show!!!

I loved that show. miss it. I don't understand why her sit-coms keep getting cancelled. They need time to build up an audience.

Read in a 1990 TV guide that Bagdad Cafe was cancelled because Family Matters was very popular during the 1990-91 season. That was the time that the Urkel character started to become popular

Soloman, I have a question for you. You keep referencing TV Guide. Do you have a storeroom of old tv guides? What other references do you have alot of?

I do remember this show some. Wasn't this a movie first? I thought the movie starred CCH Pounder. Was she in the series as well?

Yeah it was based on a 1988 Film of the same name. Pounder wasn't in the series
