folks, i really am seeing a lot of negativity from many folks here about so many aspects of the last few episodes of the last season.
some folks are upset about dave being angry enough to crash maddie's car. then the fuss about them disliking each other so much at the end. hating the david had his fling with annie, ....... it just seems that you guys want the characters to end up the way you wanted them to. think about the relations you have been in or have been close to. things went haywire and people get so angered they do lose it. they do dislike each other, or more. and as for one having a fling, it happens, and it happens with people close to the other to "get back" at the other person, just as dave did with annie. the writers gave them our problems and actions of real life situations here. about annie, people seems to hate her. yes, she and dave did wrong, but she did go back to her husband. maddie did hate dave and annie both for what they did. NOT ONLY because she loved them both and felt betrayed by both, but what they were doing was morally wrong in her eyes. i feel this is good storytelling and deserves applause instead of what it gets. i don't know what the plans were for the characters had the show continued, but i feel (and could be way off here) that given time, they could have worked back to each other and then everybody would be happy. we would have seen the complete cycle of their relationship, instead of a rushed finish. but when the canelation ax falls, it falls quickly. maybe that could have happened, i don't know. there are plenty of episodes i didn't care for. but the whole subplot, that became the main plot about their love is what made this story so excellent for the pilot of charcter introductions all through the entire series to the last episode. again, i call that great storytelling.

I'm not sure I can agree with you Bry! I agree that you can't expect David and Maddie to just be the same as they were before they had gone through the loss of their baby and all that. However, the late 4th season and early 5th season episodes still show some kind of closeness between them. It's different, but they do seem close and seem to be heading for something. Even if its friendship or being pals... Then suddenly, the Annie story arrives (I don't hate the Annie character, honestly!) - and David inexplicably becomes bitter towards Maddie, and even worse, incredibly uncaring, they aren't even pals anymore.
So, ok, I didn't like that storyline, but the worst thing to me is that Lunar Eclipse is just obviously rushed and badly put together. There is no sense of closure whatsoever, and I can see why people felt completely cheated. The writers often seem to forget whole bits of story which they never pick up on (like David & Maddie going to Paris, which is never mentioned again - did they go?). I guess it lacks Glenn Gordon Caron's overseeing eye which ensured more consistency before then... Just my thoughts! Mul

Maddie was torn between David and Sam. She knew what she thought was best for her but in her heart, she wanted David. We felt her pain.
David showed none of the same feelings. He wasn't torn at all between Annie and Maddie. That was the most hurtful of all to me. It was as if Maddie had never existed. I hated the character of David throughout most of the last episodes. The bedroom scene was the most crappiest-hurtful-out of character scene in Moonlighting IMO. I did like the dance between David and Maddie in WGC. In Eine Kleine, I liked the Chinese food scene, especially when Maddie lands on David and he shakes his body back and forth with her on top of him. I also like the scene when Maddie is in her blue jammies -- there was a real feeling of closeness between them -- the kiss on the cheek was sweet, and they exchanged the "look" that gave me the good kind of chills. I liked nothing in Lunar Eclipse except the montage. The wedding scenes were ridiculous and painful to watch. BUT on this site, we can agree or disagree. It's all good. That's why I like this site so much.

I think our disappointment is with how a once brilliant and clever show centered around a romance between two people that were fully developed characters that we cared a great deal about swerved off course in the fifth season and become very different from what we knew to be the characters and the show. This seems to be directly related to Glenn Caron leaving the series...which makes sense since he was the creator.

Yep, when you're right, your right, Kismet, that's the beauty of this place - we can disagree or agree, it's all good!
I have little bits of season 5 that I love as well, it just wasn't the same after GGC left. I think Cindy sums it up really well to be honest. Mul |

I prefer the earlier episodes before things got so deep and meaningful anyway. I found some of the end episodes almost stressful to watch! I agree with Mul - the worst thing about Lunar Eclipse was how rushed it was. I'm sure that the writers' intention was to bring Maddie and David back together again, eventually, but the cancellation of the series resulted in some swift wrapping up. It's just an unfortunate shame. I'm sure it was no body's first choice.
What we need now, is a Moonlighting movie, to tie up all those loose ends properly! Could you imagine how amazing that would be?! Love Gem |

About the last ep... Mmmm... I think Caron would have prefer a "happy ending" to... Maybe the new writers were trying to say "hey, we can be as original as Glenn was... Let's show them what we can do and give them an incredulous and surprising ending"??? LOL just a thought Agree that we can all agree or disagree here! ![]() Love, Carina.

A Moonlighting reunion movie would be so GREAT, but we shall see if the two stars would be even interested. Well, at least Bruce, because I've heard that Cybill is. It's just a shame when stars forget their roots, because we all know that Moonlighting is where Bruce got his start. Without that, who knows where he would be now.

much as I love all the fan fiction I still say no to a movie. Could they recapture the magic? Would enough people want to watch to make it a worthwhile project? Would a studio be brave enough to cast Bruce with an "older" woman than usual? And many more questions that I am too tired to type.
It was a horrible edning but I am still happy with the thought of the DVDs, my imagination, fan finction and this board ![]()

About the older woman part.
Moonlighting was a show that experimented with a lot of different things, why not continue? I loved "Something's Gotta Give" with Jack Nickolson and Diane Keaton. Also an older woman (okay, Jack is a bit older than Diane), but anyway...ehm, forgot what I was heading to...maybe you can guess because I'm tired and I can't think straight. blah blah blah...this post really doesn't say a thing, does it? lol

I see your point(s) Tamm. It could so easily go horribly wrong. And then we'd all be even more upset! I'm not sure about the public response and how well it would go down. It would be unlikely to be a big hit, I imagine. I'm not sure people would be worried about the age difference. People didn't seem to be concerned about it back in the day, I doubt they would be now. To be honest, I doubt people would realise she was older. But I can see that there would be a lot to take into consideration, and it would be a bit of a risk for people investing money in it. I still wouldn't say no to a movie! Love Gem |

I always thought producers lost out in the early 90's by not having Bruce and Cybill star together in something other than Moonlighting.
Even though I want BW and CY together, I don't see a Moonlighting movie coming out on the big screen unless they produced it themselves. In today's Hollyweird, since BW is around 50, his women co-stars are usually in the 25 to 30 year old range, maybe even younger. I remember cringing when I saw Harrison Ford and Ann Heche in some movie, thinking THIS looks ridiculous, but realizing that this is what Hollywood thinks WE want to see. I remember being delighted when I heard that Bruce was going to do Me Again with an actress relatively close to his age - but alas that movie was thwarted. Cybill should have done some things in the 90's with Gregory Harrison, or Don Johnson, or Jeff Bridges, Timothy Bottoms etc. |
