Here's the Volkswagen Touran, VW's newest microvan!

VW's latest multipassenger vehicle (MPV) is similar to the Mazda 5, the Pontiac Vibe, or the Vibe's Toyota twin, the Matrix. It would make a great addition to VW's North American lineup. So why isn't the Touran available on this continent? I'd love to see it offered here - and I don't even want an MPV! Go to www.vw.com, Volkswagen of America's site, and petition them to offer the Touran here if you're interested!

Talking A Red Vee Dubya Microbus!

But for most Americans, the original Volkswagen Microbus will always be the first and last word in VW wagons!

(A red 1962 VW Microbus. Shovels, rakes and implements of destruction sold separately! )

Note that even VWs had whitewall tires (sometimes even wide whitewalls) in the '60s. For some reason, ww tires are nowhere to be found on modern cars. I guess they lost their popularity. I like them. (And lots of chrome, too.)

Whitewalls looked good on early VW's but for some reason, not so good on later ones. And they'd totally look ridiculous on anything from the water-cooled age!

Here's a really nice 1981 Dasher five-door sedan!

This was the last year for the Dasher; it would be replaced by the Quantum for 1982.

Cool A Quantum Leap!

The 1982 Quantum came in three body styles - a three-door hatchback, a four-door notchback sedan, and a five-door wagon. Here's the '82 Quantum hatchback!

Doesn't look familiar? The Quantum hatchback was not popular; it didn't last long in VW's North American lineup. (It was gone after 1983.)

The 1984 Quantum sedan as it appeared in VW literature.

The slogan VW was using at the time said it all - "It's not a car. It's a Volkswagen."

Because you're dyin' to see it. . . .

A VW Quantum wagon!

This 1987 model features VW's four-wheel-drive Syncro system; permanent four-wheel-drive for passenger cars was a rarity then. It's still available in VW's larger cars under a new name - 4Motion.

Wink

You know, if I ever decided to convert a VW into a dune buggy, I'd kind of like to make it look like this

And take a look at the one behind these three. Yes, that's a Beetle towing that trailer.

Great collection of Beetles there, D-Dey! I see a Dasher in the background. . . could this be a picture from the Wolfsburg Autostadt Museum?

One of the many reasons I want to go to Germany.

Regarding the black-and-white Bug - I've heard of Harlequin Volkswagens, but Marcel Marceau Volkswagens?

Actually, that's Green-and-White. But anyway, you've got to see this Taxi too. They ought to make New Beetles like this:

Hey, you're right - must have been the light in my room affecting the color on the screen! It's a pretty dark green, to be sure - almost looks black.

Nice taxi. I gotta go to Wolfsburg - soon!

By the time the third-generation Jetta was introduced in the 1993 model year, the Jetta model was VW's bestseller in North America. Despite VW's attempt to standardize model names globally, the Vento nameplate replaced the Jetta name in Europe.

Here's one with a VR6 engine.
