That's right, the fifth-generation Golf is going to be adorned with the Rabbit name in North America once again. VW of America wants to sell the most advanced Golf ever as a cute, cufddly car!

But. . . for less than $15,000!

Cute, but I think it'd be better if it was just sold as a Special or Limited Edition of the Golf. Kind of like the Golf GTI.

Anyway, when I get an photo of my mother's 1963 VW Beetle, and turn it into a *jpeg, I'll post that here too.

The Golf V (called the Rabbit once again) does look a lot like a seventh-generation Honda Civic, but when I saw it in person (plus its GTI cousin), I was amazed at how greatly improved it was inside. The Golf VI should look less like a Honda when it gets here in 2010. A 2010 Rabbit might be my next car!

And yes, Mikado, the Type 3 notchback was sold in Canada - I said they were "never sold here," and by "here," I meant the United States. You'll still find plenty of Type 3 notchabacks in southern California brought over from Germany and Canada by VW fans who have restored them and drive them as everyday cars!

My next car might be a Golf 4...Ive heard they still have the reliability probs VWs have been having lately, but, the fact that they look sooooo much like a G1-Rabbit might make me take the chance....as for that early Ghia coupe whos pic I took, it sat under that tree for 5 years, I took the pic, finally and, next time i went by, it was sold and gone....Im so glad I had my camera that day!!!! ps I hope you liked the pic

The other thing i dont like about the 5th gen is that Bumper Grill thing....Traditionally, VWs were either grilless or had as little grill as possible...I thought the VW2000 show car of the late 80s would be the VW look of the future, and im sad that its not...in case you cant tell, I dont like grills

The styling cues of current VW's are meant to emulate the Phaeton super-luxury car.

As for the Golf IV, I've had problems with it from time to time, but excpet for the calipers in the brakes, nothing major. . . and anything that breaks doesn't stay broken for long - and once it's fixed it stays fixed!
