Suit yourself, Fleet, but could you please post Plymouths on your Mopar picture thread? Thanks.

Before there was the Passat, there was the Dasher.

(Actually, "Dasher" was what Volkswagen called the original Passat in the States, because "Passat" - short for, as noted, Passatwind, German for "trade wind" - sounded way to foreign here then.)

The Dasher was Volkswagen's topline family car in their North American lineup in the 1970's. It was the spiritual successor to the mid-engined Type 3 sedans of yore. Pictured above is a brochure for a 1976 five-door hatchback Dasher.

This is a 2002 model. Don't let its mild-mannered economical hatchback looks fool you - this is one VW autobahn drivers never get to see, because R32's kick dust into their windshields!

Default My last VW....for now

In 95 I bought a Mazda 323 and a few weeks ago a Ford Escort, nice cars, but dull to drive, compared to VWs....this 88 Golf was the last of 3 VWs i owned, it was also the only NEW car I ever bought ( Well, it was a demo, but, basically new) I had the red stripes added to the side cause i hate white cars and it made it look a bit more distinctive...but, the price was right!

The second-generation Passat was the car called the Quantum here in the eighties.

What could be better than the new 3-door GTI?

How about the new 5-door GTI?

The Volkswagen Rabbit - the original Golf, that is - was the most copied car in the world. Fiat, Chrysler, Honda - all of them copied Volkswagen's design.

As this ad for the 1979 Rabbit made clear, the original would always be superior.
