Modelmakers weren't the only ones copying the original Golf. Car companies such as Chrysler, Fiat, and Toyota came out with subcompacts based on Giugiaro's Golf/Rabbit design. As a VW Rabbit ad featuring an art collector asked rhetorically, "Why settle for a copy, when you can have the original?"

I would love an R32. Too bad they only made 5000.

Another "not in America" model is the Volkswagen LT, which is one size up from the Bus/Vanagon/EuroVan.
