There was a survey on talk radio this morning about hw many people under 30 like black and white movies because it was said most people born after 1974 are not into black and white movies. Well I was watching black and white movies at the age of 8. And i love Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis Black and White Movies from the 1950's.

It depends on what the movie is. I love Hitchcock movies, and I don't care if they are in black and white or color. It all depends on the stroy. A good story is a good story, and it should not matter if it is presented in B&W or color.

I feel the same way. If it is a good movie, I don't care whether it's color or B/W. I love many of both. |

I was born in 1982. I'm a film student, and I'd take any b/w film from the 30s and 40s over half the junk that gets released today.
Hmm, I've got enough time for a movie before I go to bed tonight. What shall it be, All About Eve or Scary Movie 3? ![]() |

I'll go along with that, but in fact, I think there are several films that are better because they're in black and white. Could you imagine seeing Casablanca in color? Eek, that would be horrible! There's something really magical about the silver touches that color films miss. That's why there are still b/w films made long after the color technology came out: Paper Moon, Psycho, Shindler's List... even Kill Bill! ![]() |

Very true. However, there are some films like Vertigo in which the color plays a very important role in the movie. Vertigo would not have worked nearly as well in black and white. Neither would have Lawrence of Arabia. |

A director is an artist, I will leave it to their discretion what is the best way to portray their film.

I'm not realy prejudiced towards either type of film. I'll agree with Liza that I'd prefer many black and white films over the crap released now. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf was released in the early sixties and shot in black and white, as well as Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? I think the black and white works well for both, especially 'Virginia Woolf'- it helps capture the darker atmosphere of the film.

True, but let's not forget that color technology was present when all of those movies were made. The first color film to win Best Picture was Gone With the Wind in 1939. It was more expensive to make color films, but it was not an impossibility. So normally I'd say there's a reason why the filmmakers chose to shoot on color or black and white. There are very few b/w movies I'd prefer to see colored. |

I myself don't care if a movie is in b & w or in color I just care if I like it or not.
Colorized films that were once black & white bother me.

That bothers me too -- I'd rather them just keep it in black and white.
