Default Your thoguhts on Barbrara Strisand

Barbrara Strisand was and still iso ne of the most awsome singers there ever was,Forget about her politcle views, she does have a voice of a songbird, and she's still around while mose of the music in her days have (some) vansished all togehther.I wish there were more music stars (females0 would learn a few lessons from her,

Eyes Of Laurara Mars was a fantastic song,People who think that if you listend to Strisan,Liza Minnelie t or who ever sings show tunes are gay,but not me.

here are some of my favorites of her,
as Imention
Eyes Of Laura Mars
The Way We Were
Enough Is Enough with Donna Summer
She has done seuts with Bryan Adamns and Clieon Dion. She also done acting, her movie which she pplayed a girl who wants to be a boy sin the jewish communtie Yentel won her a Oscar recently she is playing the monther in Meetinr The Parents.

I think she's an incredible singer, but I don't really care for her diva attitude

She's all right; I wouldn't rank her in my top 10 of female singers as show tunes are not really my type of music, but some of the songs she's done that I like are:

The Way We Were
Evergreen
What Kind of Fool (with the Bee Gees)
No More Tears (with Donna Summer)

This may be off the subject but a running joke in some circles is that gay men adore her music. If this is true, why is this so?

I have to say that I like her duet with Barry Gibb on "Guilty", but this probably has more to do with my love of The Bee Gees then Barbara. I also have a Cd single of her duet with Bryan Adams, "I Finally Found Some One."

want a list?
1. she's Broadway, while a great deal of younger gay men arent into that, older gay men are.
2. she's a diva, gay men love our divas
3. she's always extended her support to the gay community, she was standing right beside us and trying to fight against AIDS during the gay backlash of the mid-1980's
4. her image is slightly campy, which has made her idol fodder for drag queens
5. she's dabbled in disco and in dance-pop before, if she came out with a remix single today, it'd skyrocket to #1 on the Dance Charts because there's a lot of gays out there who'd love to hear a contemporary (since her last dance song was Emotion in 1984) club song for her
6. her son is gay, which also gives her a "maternal" view to the entire communty, same goes with Cher.

Barbra, along with Cher, Madonna and Bette Midler, is one of the top gay icons of the past 50 years

Campy meaning that she seems larger than life and a bit outrageous?

Bette Midler comes off as being totally outrageous in some ways like a female version of one of the oldtime Jewish vaudeville comedians or a female Robin Williams. She seems like the type who has no problem making herself look absolutely ridiculous to get a laugh. Barbra Streisand comes off more like (I'm going to use this derogatory term) a JAP (or rather a JAQ- Q for Queen) From what I have heard of her music and her acting there is nothing just plain folksy or down to earth about her. Cher comes across as being a bit less manufactured and a lot more self-deprecating.

I think the part that is most fascinating with Streisand is how long her career has lasted. Her first album came out a year before Beatlemania hit and JFK was still president. Yet today her albums still go top 10.

just look at it this way
1963 - her debut album wins Grammys and sells great
1973 - 10 years into her career, The Way We Were is a big hit
1983 - 20 years into her career, she directs Yentl to great acclain
1993 - 30 years into her career, Back To Broadway is a #1 album and she sells out performances for $1000
2003 - 40 years into her career, The Movie Album goes top 5 even despite a backlash towards "liberal celebrities"

No doubt she's lasted a long time, although I don't think she's had much of a presence on the radio with anything new since about 1997, although her old songs still get a lot of airplay.

I think some older acts still sell well in part because of talent, in part because of being well liked or revered within their industry. Isley Brothers is another pre-Beatles act that is still very popular. Ms Streisand from what I have heard is really almost feared by a lot people in show business.

You should see her in "What's Up Doc," and "The Main Event." Both are with Ryan O'Neal and very funny movies.

My mother loves Barbra Streisand. I have these albums on vinyl and on CD's too.
