Default Ok I seen the show for the first time today and i have a few questions

What was that hand movement the Mother was doing when someone was leaving the house? I think one of daughters did it also. It was something Ann was doing with her hands because she was upset.

What Did Ann do for a living? I episodes I seen she was home all day.lol

Overall I like the show and probably will buy the DVD

I haven't seen the show in years, but I thought that Ann worked for an advertising agency.

You don;t remember whAt was meant by Ann using her hands when she was upset? She put one hand up in the air and did something else. It was directed at someone who left her house

That was an episode from season 4,when her ex husband Ed Cooper paid a visit.Ann and Ed got into a heated argument that resulted in him leaving and her giving him that angry hand gesture.

I think the hand gesture was something Italian in origin, something along the lines of sticking up one's middle finger. I'm not Italian so someone correct me if I'm in error on that one. Funny, Bonnie Frankilin wasn't convincing as an Italian American at all. Irish American yes, but not Italian. I've never met an Italian with orange hair and in the first few seasons her hair looked like it was naturally carrot colored. I think she was miscast in that part.

I don't think she got the ad exec job until season 2. I don't remember what kind of work she did in season 1. On jumptheshark.com the posters criticize the idea that a housewife with no college education could become an ad executive.

Bonnie Franklin is actually Jewish, Valerie Bertinelli is Italian.

I always loved the hand gesture in the opening credits. I always took it to mean sort of like an "up yours" gesture, LOL. There was another time Ann did that in season 7 I think. Schneider took Alex to a mud wrestling event and Ann found out about it. Someone at the club insults Ann and she gives them this hand gesture.

I remember it now - it's either the under the chin flick, or the side hand bite and yes, those are Italian gestures but I can't post the actually translation.

I'm sure you get the jist now tho!

Actually there's been plenty of Jews who play Italians on shows. Probably because they're both from the Mediterranean so they're similar.

Doris Roberts and Brad Garrett are both Jewish, yet played on Everybody Loves Raymond. I was sure Brad was Italian because he speaks it so well.

Her way of flipping someone off.

Another actress I could had seen played the part of Ann Romano would had been Nancy Dussault of Too Close for Comfort. They have similar acting styles and almost look alike.

Bonnie was not the original choice for Ann Romano.
