Aunt Martha's visit

[desilu #1]

June is 8 months pregnant with Beaver and Ward has agreed to have aunt Martha's help during this time while he works during the day. Only after a few days he's ready to ship her back.

Ward(in den)
Martha(enters) May I get you something Ward?
Ward(working) No thank You Martha. Is June up resting?
Martha: Yes she is.
Ward: I need to get finished so I can spend some time with her and play catch with Wally after dinner. What are we having?
Martha(proudly) Eggplant.
Ward(sighs) I see.
Martha: What's wrong?
Ward: Oh nothing. Well I'm finished so I will go check on June.(going up the stairs)
Martha(stops him) No Ward, you really shouldn't disturb June she needs her rest.
Ward(stops and motions for her to sit down) Let's talk a minute....shall we?
Martha(sits down) Yes Ward?
Ward: Now I'm very grateful that you are here helping take care of June and Wally during this time but if you recall I was in the Seabees when she was carrying Wally and I couldn't be here to take care of her and make her comfortable.
Martha: Yes but...
Ward: Please let me finish?
Martha(sighs) Very well.
Ward: Thank You. I need you here during the day when I'm at the office but when I'm home I will take care of June. You can still handle Wally for me but I promised June that I would be there for her and I intend on keeping that promise. She's very sensitive and very dependant on me and that is my desire as her husband and because I love her and want to experience all of this pregnancy with her since I missed out the first time. Can you understand that?
Martha: Yes Ward, and I think you are a wonderful man.

*upstairs*
Ward(laying next to June,rubbing her back)

*downstairs*
Wally: Aunt Martha I'm hungry.
Martha: Well dinner's almost ready.
Wally(happy) Hotdogs?!
Martha: No Wallace,we are having eggplant.
Wally(makes a face and throws himself on the ground) No! I want hotdogs!! I don't like plants!!(screams)
Martha(scolds) Young man!
June:Ward, Wally's screams and crying!
Ward: I'll go take care of it.(downstairs) Wally what is wrong?!
I want hotdogs!
Martha: He is having a tantrum because he wants that trash when I made eggplant!
Ward(picks Wally up) Take it easy son.
June(comes in) What's going on?
Ward: Honey I'm gonna take Wally to the park and get us some hotdogs and play with him.
Martha: What about my eggplant?
June: Ward, she has already made dinner.
Ward: I don't want to be rude babe but you know I don't force my boy to eat what I won't eat.(kisses her goodbye) See ya later.

*in kitchen eating*
Martha: Hotdogs are very unhealthy, I can't believe you allow him to eat such food.
June(sighs) Aunt Martha he only gets them once in a while. Please don't critize Ward & I for that.
Martha(sighs) Did Ward bother you while you were resting?
June(smiles) No aunt Martha. Ward is very attentive to me and I really need him. My lower back has been bothering terribly lately so he rubs it for me.
Martha: well, ok. Wally has got to learn that after this baby is born he will need to be quieter and quit throwing tantrums.
June(rubbing her head) Yes aunt Martha.
Ward(walks in and sees June is upset) Hi sweetheart, you ok?
June(smiles) I'm fine. Back so soon?
Ward(chuckles) Yeah well Wally ate two hotdogs and got sleepy so I took him up to bed.
Martha: Without a bath?
June: It can wait until tommorrow aunt Martha. You know a nice hot bubblebath sounds very nice and relaxing.
Ward(gently touches her face) I tell ya what, I'll go run the water for you and come back down to help you up there.
June: Thank You(kisses him)
Ward(leaving) Oh here is your candy bar you wanted earlier.
Martha: Candy?! She shouldn't..
June: The doctor said I could have one a day.(sees Ward getting irritated) Ward? The bath?
Ward(kisses her) Oh yes honey,right away.(leaves)
Wally(comes down) Mommy I did't get a kiss.
June(reaches for him...puts him in her lap) Aww my little man. We thought you were sleeping.(kisses him) Kiss aunt Martha?
Wally(just looks at her)
Martha(puckers up)
Wally(closes his eyes and kisses her fast) Mommy take upstairs.
Martha: Mother is not supposed to be on her feet, I'll take you.
Ward(walks in) I'll take care of that(picks her up)
Wally(funny look on his face) Mommy did you break your leg or something?
Ward(laughs) No son. remember we talked about this. Mommy is supposed to take it easy while she is carrying your new brother or sister.
Wally(funny face) Ewww no girls mom!
June(giggles) Honey I have no say in the matter.
Ward(laughs) Well I gotta get mom upstairs.
Martha(takes Wally's hand) Come dear.
*upstairs*
Ward(puts June on the bed) There honey,everything is ready for you in the bathroom.
June(smiles) Thank you honey.
Wally(bursts in) Dad!
Ward(suprised) Wally Cleaver!
Martha(runs in) I'm trying to give him a bath and he refuses.
Ward(bends down) Listen son, I told you that you are to knock at mom and dad's bedroom door and I can't because I need to help mommy with her bath.
Martha(horrified) Well! Come Wallace!(nervous,eyes wide open and mouth open) Let's go I---I'll read you a story.
Ward(burst out laughing)
June(slaps his leg) Ward Cleaver! Why do you enjoy upsetting my aunt like that?!
Ward: I just said I was gonna help you for pete sakes,she's the one thinking other things.
June: My aunt Martha doesn't think like you do! Your--your such a man!
Ward(pulls her close) Okay, honey I'm sorry. But I didn't mean anything by it I was telling Wally why she had to give him a bath.
Please don't get upset,it's not good for you.
June(pouts) Oh Okay.

*next morning*
Martha(cooking)
Wally: Mommy, where's dad?
June: He's ready to take a shower,he will be down soon.
Martha: I'm taking some towels up to the hall closet for you.
June(smiles) Thank you.
*upstairs*
Ward(towel wrapped around him..walking out to closet to get wash cloth)
Martha(turns around and screams)
June(upstairs) What's wrong?!
Martha(shaken up and pointing) Look at your husband!!
Ward: I was just getting wash cloth!
Martha: You should'nt be walking around in a towel!!
Ward(sarcastic) Well I can take it off.
Martha/June(yell) NO!!
Ward(holding back laughter...goes back into room and shuts the door)
Martha(shaken up and fanning herself)
June(puts arm around her) Oh aunt Martha, I'm so sorry. Ward just does that, I mean he walks around. Nevermind. I'll take care of it.(goes into bathroom) Ward Cleaver! That is the second time you have shocked my aunt Martha!
Ward(laughing hysterically) Well, I just wanted a washcloth! Besides it's my house and I figured she was cooking.
June: You need to be more considerate of her. She has never seen a man like that before. And she's old fashioned.
Ward: Yeah I know and she passed it on to you. Remember our wedding night?(laughs)
June(stomps her foot) Ward!
Ward(laughs) Come on honey. Where's your sense of humor?
June(trying not to laugh) Just watch yourself buster.
Ward(laughs) did you see the look on her face? And you really thought I was gonna drop my towel.(laughs hysterically)
June(starts laughing) Yeah, it was priceless.
Ward(chuckles) See you gotten learn to lighten up even when she is here. You get so uptight when she visits.
June: I know but I just don't like to disappoint her.
Ward(goes to June and cups her face with his hands) Look honey,this is our home and we are married adults. Just remember that.

*later that night in livingroom*
June(dusting)
Ward(comes from den) What are you doing?
June: Dusting.
Ward(looks at his watch) You need to get some rest babe it's getting late besides that's what your aunt is here for.
June: I can do this one thing, she's cleaning the kitchen.
Ward(sighs) June honey come on let me get you to bed.
June: In a bit dear.
Ward(firm) No now.
June: I'm almost done!(raises her voice)
Ward(clears his throat and picks her up) I'm taking you to bed now!
June(yells) Ward Cleaver! Put me down this instant! I'm not going to bed! You can't just act like a caveman like this and drag me up to bed!
Martha(runs out and yells) Put her down you big brute!(slaps him on the arm with a dishtowel) can't you wait until she gives birth?
Ward(puts June down) What?!
Martha(points and yells) You heard me you big bully! Is that all you men think about? Wait until that baby is...
Ward(cracks up laughing) I just want her to go to bed...TO REST!!!
June(giggles) Oh aunt Martha I shouldn't have carried on like that but I wanted to finish my dusting and he wouldn't let me.
Martha(embarrassed) Oh, well...I agree dear! That's what I'm here for. Ward, you take her upstairs...to rest..I I got to get back to work.
Ward(smiles and kisses aunt Martha on the cheek) Thank you for your help and concern.

Aunt Martha stayed for a few weeks after June gave birth to Beaver and drove everyone nuts,especially poor Ward! Hope you all enjoyed my story!
