Default Remembering Samantha Smith

Some of you here are perhaps too young to know the story of a little girl named Samantha Smith, who wanted peace between the United States and the Soviet Union, and met tragedy instead.

I'm sure many are aware of her story. If not, take the time to read the link. It's interesting.

Wow, she died in the same month/year I was born.

I'd heard a little about her, but this totally clears it up. Thanks.

(EDIT: I just did a quick IMDB search on her...her b-day woulda been June 29th and the plane crash happened almost 2 weeks after I was born, on August 25th)

I haven't thought about her in a long time, but I have never forgotten the impact she had and how truly sad I was when she died. She was a special person..

Felt the need to copy this from the site you shared with us, Janice:

What would Samantha have thought of all this? Her own words provide a hint. "Sometimes I still worry that the next day will be the last day of the Earth," she once said, "but with more people thinking about the problems of the world, I hope that someday soon we will find the way to world peace. Maybe someone will show us the way." Samantha Smith was "someone" who showed many the way to create a more peaceful world.

Did anyone watch the short-lived TV drama Lime Street(1985),
which starred Samantha Smith?

I've never heard of her before, but thanks for telling us about her, Janice.
It's sad that she died. I'll have to look up more about her.

Thanks for the article. I didn't know of her story too well.... If she had lived, she should have had a remarkable life, I'm sure. She was a very bright and amazing girl. How sad it was cut so short.

I remember hearing about her but not until she died. She was on the frontpage of the newspaper the day after she died but before that I had never heard of her. Very sad story

yea i remember her from reading about her in my history book. how sad it must have been for her mom to get the call that her and her dad were killed back in '85. it just made me feel good that one little letter she wrote, almost made a difference. she could have been a great actress too.

It's hard to believe that Samantha would be 32 now. She probably would have been in politics...in an ambassador's role. I guess it's one thing we'll never know.
