Does anyone remember the Marvel Superheroes? This was syndicated in the 70s and early 80s. I think it was originally a syndicated show, not a Saturday morning cartoon. They took SubMariner, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Ironman stories from the 60s comic books. But instead of animating them they literally took the pictures from the comic books and put them up on the screen and shook them a little to make it look llike they were moving. It was hilarious to see and no doubt cheap to produce.

These cartoons were actually produced in the 1960s by Grantray Lawrence, the same folks who would do the original "Spiderman" cartoon in 1967 (note how they misspelled "Spider-Man").
The best thing about these "cartoons" (and I use that term loosly) was those wacky theme songs for the various series ("When Captain America throws his mighty shield/ all thos who chose to oppose his shield must yield"; "Doc Bruce Banner/ belted with gamma rays/turns into the Hulk/{ain't he unglammy-rays")...once they get into your head, they just won't get out!! |

It's true. I haven't seen those cartoons (or pictures) since the early 80s and I can still sing or at least hum the theme songs.
