Tv today is very horrible. When they allow all these swear words and cross-dressers(Brini Maxwell) on tv, makes me sick. Please give me your comments on today's TV world

With that arguement -- TV hasn't been good since the 60s.
And with the "cross dressers" arguement -- its NEVER been good. I dont think TV is all that bad today.... one of my favorite series of all time is still airing. (Frasier) And one REALLY smart and funny series has just begun. (Arrested Development) So all in all -- TV isnt all that bad these days. |

Actually, there was no real argument presented. I don't see exactly how "swear words and cross-dressers" equals horrible tv. If it's something you don't care for, that's one thing, but it still may be considered entertainment by someone else. It doesn't necessarily make it bad. I can look at Arrested Development, 24, the Sopranos, the Wire, the Apprentice, Bernie Mac, etc. and think that tv isn't horrible at all, television is better than it's ever been. I for one appreciate that tv is reflective of the world. Cross dressers exist. Swear words exist. I'm sure that there are countless people who can watch such images on tv and not want to go out and corrupt society by being a foul-mouthed cross dresser. It makes no sense putting energy into things you know you don't like, why not focus on what you feel is positive about television?

I am afraid that our beloved old 50's,60's and 70's sitcoms would be too "unsophisticated" for todays viewers!
But on the other hand the vintage (oldies) stations (TVLand, Nick At Nite, Hallmark, etc.) are doing very well. So I guess "old" isn't necessarily "out" , right? ![]()

I'm not too keen on reality TV and I'll admit that a large majority of television these days doesn't interest me but there are several programs I enjoy. It isn't all bad.

I think reality shows and infomercials are the worst things that happened to tv, but some people like those too.
Some shows have things in them that I don't like, but they're otherwise so funny, I try to overlook those things. I don't know if these count as cross dressers, but Max Klinger, Barney Fife, Dick Solomon, Milton Berle, and the guys in Bosom Buddies were hilarious in dresses. |

A lot of stuff on TV today is pretty bad...but swear words and cross dressers are NOT the reason.

I agree. There are few sitcoms on today with the depth and creativity of the shows of yesterday. Shows today that are supposed to be family oriented are just not as good as the ones of a few years ago. Even the few shows on network tv that I like simply do not compare with the classic shows that I watch. AND I REALLY REALLY HATE REALITY SHOWS! |

Yeah, who wants to watch people eat worms? They should change the name of Fear Factor to Bug of the Week.
Lack of creativity is right. Most new shows are from an assembly line with the same stupid sex jokes, insults, and blows to the groin. I put up with some of that stuff if a show has something else going for it, but judging by the ads for some shows, there's nothing to bother watching them for. The old shows had so many different things they found to joke about and even be clean. Maybe they used them all up. |
