It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 28 at 8PM. And another Halloween special on Halloween Night (Friday, October 31) at 8PM...possibly the same special, though.

Three awesome shows and all return to bad ratings. PD(especially) and PP were way down, DSM not as much but still not good. DSM's ending was shocking. and PP's was definitely "want to see what happens next"

Oh, and that DH promo during DSM? Amazing, and mostly because it used vintage Season 1 music!!!!

The ratings were horrendous! I think the biggest shock was Private Practice - last season it was getting an easy 14 million viewers at 9pm. It premiered last night to just over 8 million - what went wrong? And Pushing Daisies - 6 million viewers, and it dropped A LOT in its second half.

Honestly, the only winner of the night for ABC was Dirty Sexy Money, IMO. It got like 7 million, which was similar to what it was getting last year (and the only show not to drop hugely). Maybe people didn't know they were back on - I think we'll see ratings pick up a lot next week for ABC. Seriously, even Knight Rider on NBC beat out Pushing Daisies.

Pushing Daisies was the shock. Private Practice grew in the half-hour and part of the blame is America's Got Talent finale which did over 12 million. Next week it will be interesting, because I think Private Practice will do better and beat the sluggish Deal or No Deal.
Dirty Sexy Money grew on its numbers from last year's finale in December, however that was the lowest rated episode (exclusing the Thanksgiving Eve airing).

All were disappointing to say the least, but all are on the watch because they could grow (I don't think Pushing Daisies will recover). Quality wise, they were all on their game.

Someone emailed (using my ratings I post here), and made a track of the ratings numbers for all three from last Fall. I think you'd like to recall these numbers:

PUSHING DAISIES
10/3/07 8.3/14, 13.03, 4.3/13
10/10/07 6.7/11, 10.26, 3.7/11
10/17/07 6.6/11, 9.86, 3.7/10
10/24/07 6.3/10, 9.67, 3.2/9
10/31/07 5.6/10, 8.57, 2.7/8
11/14/07 5.7/9, 8.83, 3.1/9
11/21/07 Thanksgiving Special 4.7/8, 7.48, 2.2/7
11/28/07 9pm 6.0/9, 9.99, 3.7/9
12/12/07 4.5/7, 6.84, 2.4/7
AVG 9.392 million

Private Practice
9/26/07 9.8/15, 14.41, 5.2/13
10/3/07 8.3/13, 12.45, 4.5/11
10/10/07 8.2/13, 12.42, 4.9/13
10/17/07 8.1/12, 11.78, 4.3/11
10/24/07 8.1/12, 11.91, 4.5/11
10/31/07 7.8/13, 11.34, 3.8/10
11/14/07 7.8/12, 11.48, 4.2/11
11/21/07 Thanksgiving Special 5.7/9, 8.54, 2.7/7
12/5/07 7.0/11, 10.4, 3.8/10
AVG 11.6367 million

Dirty Sexy Money
9/26/07 7.4/12, 10.44, 3.6/10
10/3/07 6.5/11, 9.61, 3.5/10
10/10/07 5.9/10, 8.64, 3.3/9
10/17/07 6.2/11, 8.67, 3.0/8
10/24/07 5.9/10, 8.26, 3.1/8
10/31/07 5.7/10, 8.2, 2.8/8
11/14/07 5.5/9, 7.9, 2.8/8
11/21/07 Thanksgiving Special 4.4/8, 6.37, 2.0/6
11/28/07 after Pushing Daisies 4.9/8, 7.04, 2.6/7
12/5/05 4.8/8, 6.74, 2.3/6
AVG 8.187 million

Pushing Daisies was down an average of 3 million from last year's average, as was Private Practice. However, Dirty Sexy Money was just down a million from last year's average.

I was shocked in general. I expected a lot better. Next week is key(and I do think PP was hurt by AGT), but a big problem I see is that PP and DSM are pre-empted on the 15th for a debate, so it might kill any momentum they get next week. I think PD will be the first to go though.

Last year was marred by Halloween, Thanksgiving, and a pre-emption, and then of course, the strike. BTW, heard today the SAG board has recommended there be a strike authorization vote. Oh joy. (Doesn't mean they will strike though, I sure hope not).

If their's another strike their might not be any television to come back too except reality shows. Ratings for most of the shows are already down compared to last year and I think the strike was responsible the most for what happened on ABC's Wednesday night lineup as well as Chuck and a few others. They were taken off the air last winter and was never rerunned and after the strike didn't come back with new episodes. That hurt them bad. Frankly I don't want a strike but I've proven I can live without tv shows. I think alot of people have done the same thing.

I have to agree with everything you said. ABC/NBC made a big mistake not returning these shows after the strike. I should have stuck with my gut feeling I had when I saw Chuck and Heroes numbers that ABC Wednesday would face the same fate.

Looking at its season finale ratings, Pushing Daisies didn't do as badly as I previously thought-LOL. I never realized how much it dipped towards the end. ABC has played PD, PP, and DSM as some of their highest rated shows, when they're not at all.

I think all 3 shows will gain some viewers next week, though. Private Practice should see the biggest increase next week - I think it show grow back up to over 10 million. Pushing Daisies will likely hit 7 million, but not much more, and DSM should do similar numbers to this week. The only one I see having a chance at success, though, is PP, unless ABC sticks with PD for the Emmys.

I think PD is dead. Coming in 4th place isn't going to do. Maybe ABC will move it but honestly the competition isn't very strong where it is. The only real competition is Bones.

Yeah, that's what's sad about it. There's no competition at all for this show - it should have done an easy 8 million at the least. Was ABC promoting it a lot? I don't watch ABC much. It definitely wasn't a smart move to "relaunch" it instead of bringing it back in the spring. It lost a lot of viewers that way.

Yes, there was a lot of promotion for this show, along with the other two "relaunched" wednesday night shows they have. I live in New York city, and all I've beeing seeing is promotion for these shows. The only one they might have success with is Private Practice, and it won't be much.
