Confused Was This Rumor True About Melody Patterson AKA "Wrangler Jane?"

I've read that the F-Troop starlet was really 16 years old and that is why she never really had lovey scenes with Ken Berry. Anybody else hear about this?

Yea I just checked her website. It appears that she lied to the studio about her age. She told them that she was going to be 18 and out of school by her next birthday. They didn't find out about it until after 7 episodes were filmed.

Oh my! Well, I guess we can't blame Ken Berry from being coy to Wrangler Jane! LOL

That's also mentioned on the season two DVD.

A few decades later, Mila Kunis would do the same thing to get the role of Jackie on "That '70s Show." She was only 14-years-old when the show began.

The videos are numbered but the early ones aren't as good. #3 is where I really get going.

Yup, they mentioned that when the surviving cast of F Troop was interviewed on ET a few years ago.

Ken Berry (born Nov 1933) turned 32 in November of 1965, F-Troop's first season. Melody was born in April of 1949, about a 15 and 1/2 year age difference.

Watching the show as kids, we never thought about it, but we never would have guessed that there was that much of an age difference. It wasn't until sometime in the 80s that I read that Melody was 16 when the show started. We always assumed that Wilton was probably in his late 20s or early 30s, and Jane was in her 20s. He was just shy of being twice her age.

She was a beauty It's easy to see why they believed her about being 18.

Yeah lol

I've always wondered how Berry felt, first when he found out he'd be "romantically" involved with a girl who's only 18 (him being 32 or so), and THEN, finding out later on that she was actually only 16. Had to be a strange feeling.

He said on the ET interview that he suddenly felt awkward "because we found out that Melody was not of age!!" If I were him, I probably would've felt the same way!
