I showed the western and eastern termini of the eastern Interstate 86 in Pennsylvania and New York, respectively. Here is the western terminus of the4 western Interstate 86, which runs exclusively in Idaho. This is in the town of Declo.

Here are two pictures of the eastern terminus of the western Interstate 86, situated entirely in Idaho. As the mile market in the top picture indicates, I-86 in Idaho only runs for 62 miles or so. This terminus is in Pocatello.

I haven't gotten to the three-digit spurs yet, but when I do, I'm only concentrating on the ones with numbers that aren't repeated. There's only one I-271 - and thanks for offering that - but there are four I-280s, and I'm not going to waste my time doing all of them! I have enough trouble accounting for the multiple mainlines that use the same number.

There are two Interstate 88s, each of which run through only once state. The original Interstate 88 - a second one was added later - runs through upstate New York; here's its western terminus in Binghamton.

The other Interstate 88 is in Illinois, and before that it was state Route 5. Wikipedia explains how it became an interstate:

"The reason for I-88's original designation and continued existence as an Interstate has to do with a technicality in the old National Maximum Speed Law (NMSL). Originally passed in 1973, NMSL was amended in 1987 to permit 65 mph (105 km/h) speed limits on rural stretches of Interstate Highways only. Even though IL 5 was fully up to Interstate standards, it still had to carry a 55 mph (90 km/h) limit because of this wording in NMSL. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) petitioned the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) to re-designate IL 5 as an Interstate, and in 1987, AASHTO approved the request and assigned the Interstate 88 numbering to the highway. NMSL would be completely repealed only eight years later in 1995, but the I-88 shields remain up to this day, even though Illinois 110 shields are being posted throughout the entire Illinois I-88, since it is now part of the Chicago to Kansas City Expressway project, bannered with special "CKC" logos."

Here's the western terminus of Interstate 88 in Illinois, in East Moline.

Here's the eastern terminus of Interstate 88 in Illinois in Hillside, just outside Chicago. Much of the former Illinois State Route 5 is a toll expressway, once named the East-West Tollway. The entire highway, which runs through the northern tier of Illinois, has since been named for Ronald Reagan, who grew up in northern Illinois. Ironically, President Reagan vetoed a highway bill in 1987, the same year that Illinois Route 5 became I-88. His veto of the bill, which included financing of Boston's "Big Dig" project, was overridden.

Since it's New Year's Eve, why don't I finish off the even-numbered one-state interstates and then come back in the ironically even-numbered new year to start the odd-numbered one-state interstates? This is the western terminus of Interstate 96, which runs only through Michigan, in the town of Norton Shores. (Hi, Marlene!)

Interstates 69 and 96 run concurrently around Lansing, Michigan. What would Jimi Hendrix have thought?

And here is the eastern terminus of Interstate 96, in Detroit, where it merges into the Fisher Freeway, which is part of Interstate 75.

Happy new year. Odd-numbered one-state interstate termini are coming soon.

P.S. Here's the eastern terminus of I-96 in Detroit going the opposite direction.
