Default ABC regains the rights to All My Children and One Life To Live

Did anybody read about this? Back in 2016, Prospect Park's lawsuit got dismissed and ABC now has the rights again to both of these shows.

The shows will return to ABC in 2019.

Unless you know something I don't, the soaps are not returning in 2019.

That's a shame. Somebody must have did that when adding the source, but now it's not true at all.

The days of networks producing original scripted series for daytime are coming to an end. Even primetime is going to have less original scripted series: primetime ratings are down 15-20% from last fall.

That's not good at all. How are the daytime ratings doing?

I'd love for a SOAPnet-like channel to come back and air classic storylines from "AMC", particularly from the 90s.

It would be nice to see some of the old soap operas come back.

They also aired a 14-hour “One Life To Live” marathon on New Year’s Day in honor of the show coming to an end in 2012.

If we can’t get them on TV, hopefully there’s a streaming network that can be created specifically for classic Soaps of all kind.

I would love to see some classic soaps again. I suspect the cost of acquiring the episodes would take a lot of subscribers. Seeing that it did not sustain a cable channel it isn't likely. They could have the full run of Dark Shadows and many of the ABC episodes of The Edge of Night. I know one network aired episodes of "The Doctors" for a bit. I wonder how many episodes of Guiding Light and As the World Turns are still around? These shows could provide years of programming. If it happened they'd probably show a whole week of episodes back-to-back. Part of the fun used to be having to wait, sometimes from Friday to Monday seemingly made the weekend slower if they left off at a really good cliffhanger.

If you go on Archive.org, there's a good selection of All My Children episodes there.

I think there is an audience for soap reruns. I have most of Edge of Night from 1979 to 1984 when it ended. The cost factor may be too much to get around. I don't know if SoapNet paid residuals to the actors or writers. So many soaps were erased to save on tape, nobody ever dreamed that a day's episode would ever be seen again after it aired. Even when VCR's came along only Dark Shadows got all the episodes released eventually on DVD. I would think the concept could be tried in a Netflix format but I would want a minimum number of subscribers committed first. I don't see it working, but it has to be cheaper than making new daily episodes.

I'm amazed any soaps still exist honestly. They can run a cheap to make talk show. I would think game shows would be cheaper than new daily soap episodes but they seem to be out of favor with daytime these days. I remember when all day was game shows and soaps.
