Default How did Andy stay Sheriff in the color episodes?

Considering Andy behaved (to quote an IMBD user) like a spineless, wussy jackass in the color episodes, why did the people of Mayberry reelect him? Considering his nasty attitude and bad behavior (breaking windows, throwing things, verbally abusing townspeople, and having someone completely unqualified take over while he was ill resulting in property damage and even more verbal abuse) I would think most Maybarrians would want him out ASAP. In fact that's probably why (in-universe) he wound up getting a job in Charlotte during the RFD because after three years of his behavior the good people of Mayberry had finally had enough of his nonsense and insisted he not run for reelection.

Well, Mayberry did remain crime free during the last of his term, and he ran it all without a Deputy.

When did any of that happen during the color episodes?

In order of appearance
The bazaar: Andy breaks a window after throwing a rock in fit of rage
Opie's piano lesson: Andy angrily orders Aunt Bea into Squad car
Aunt Bee learns to drive: Andy gets over the top angry at kid for driving on sidewalk, continues to yell at kid while driving squad car (and not paying attention to the road), and almost wrecks into Aunt Bee's car.
Goober makes History: Andy explodes at Goober due to Goober having confidence
Suppose Andy Gets Sick: Goober takes over due to Andy being sick and results in squad Car getting crashed and Goober abusing authority.

Those are the big ones, but there are numerous other episodes where Andy acted out of character. Some people will point out he got angry in the B&W episodes but there was usually a legitimate reason for him to get mad (I.E Barney raking up a twenty year old case) instead of something stupid like a kid bicycling on the sidewalk.

Gomer (or was it Goober?) taking over when Andy was ill was in the black and white era, right?

I don't think any of us will argue that Andy didn't have plenty of sour moments in the color era.

Suppose Andy Gets sick is a color episode. Goober took over for Andy previously when Andy had to go to Raleigh on business in the episode Goober takes a car apart, which usually appears on Worst episodes lists.

I think I was thinking of when Andy saved Gomer's life, and Gomer made himself way too annoyingly helpful to Andy for a good while.

I'm also reminded of the episode where Andy is forced to eat spaghetti over and over, thanks toi Goober fouling up on taking his messages.

Secret ingredient:

Oregano.

This was the most pissed off I saw Andy Taylor in the series when Goober reassembled a whole car in the courthouse.

The show 'Jumped the Shark" after Knotts left in 1965.

Arguably, none of the replacement players of the color era matched the actors of the B&W times. Emmit for Howard McNear, George Lindsey from Jim Nabors (although I liked George Lindsey), and then there was Jack Burns for Don Knotts. Whoever casted Burns for this role was an idiot. Jack Burns was actually pretty good in a lot of the stuff he did in the 60's era, but he was so miscast, probably the worst miscast of all time.

Helen Crump was a biatch (she had a nice ass though, 1960's clothes knew how to show a woman's body)

The colorized Andy Taylor was a different person from the BW days. Probably more realistic as a human being, did show a negative side to the character.

These are all known facts.

I think Helen Crump's combative personality must have rubbed off on Andy.

The way he blew up at Goober when he was an "intellectual" for a few minutes was really bizarre.

The show was never the same after Don Knotts(Barney Fife) left. The chemistry on screen that Knotts and Griffith had was amazing. It was never equaled by the guy who replaced Knotts, Howard Sprague, Goober, or really anyone. Really the only character that could come close to matching Don Knotts comedic play was Otis Campbell played by Hal Smith and he wasn't used as much as Barney Fife.
