I agree. I know they were running out of material since the last Milwaukee season, S5, was painful to watch at times. Unfortunately, they didn't plan exit strategies back then, they usually just let once great shows wither and die.

The first California season had a handful of good eps, but they could only milk the fish-out-of-water concept for so long. Most of the cast wanted to move on, but they were persuaded to stay and crank out more episodes for the syndication money.

I know I harp on this, but L&S was a huge part of my childhood. I loved that show and the laughter it brought.

I'm so glad she was shot down on that. Location changes tend to be bad for shows to begin with, but dropping the rest of the cast too?
I know Laverne & Shirley were the stars, but after five seasons of getting to know and love Lenny and Squiggy (and Carmine, Frank, and Edna), to have them dumped and just expect us to get used to (presumably) a new supporting cast would be a bit much on top of the move.

The fact that the cast stayed intact is the only reason I don't write off the California years completely.

Getting rid of my fave characters is the quickest way to get me to stop watching a show.

I'm confused. What is "alone" in your sentence? I know it doesn't refer to the girls, which are plural.

Or are you saying that it was Laverne's (oops, Penny's!) idea, and nobody else's?

Sorry I was imprecise. Penny wanted Laverne & Shirley to move to NYC without the supporting cast. A new, fresher, supporting cast would be introduced to give the writers more story options.

There shouldn't have even been a season 8. Shirley left the show so I don't even know why it was still called Laverne And Shirley. Second Lenny also departed the show in season 8 leaving only Laverne And Squiggy left. The show wasn't the same without Shirley And Lenny and should have been cancelled

People probably bailed on this show by season 8

Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley are barely related to each other except that they're both in Milwaukee.

they kept the title LAVERNE & SHIRLEY for contractual reasons, or something.

yeah it was no point of changing the title at that point because there wasn'yt going to be a season 9 and definitely not a spinoff

There actually was going to be a Season 9 of the show and the show would be changed to Laverne. And Carmine was going to be spun off but then Laverne and Shirley got cancelled.

Season 9 would have been just as bad as season 8. And the spin off with Carmine probably wouldn't work a anyways

True, just pointing out that they were going to happen.
