Default Thanksgiving Fun Facts

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! Post a fun fact about Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is not just an American holiday. Canadians celebrate it too, except they do it on the second Monday in October.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1924 with 400 employees marching from Convent Ave to 145th street in New York City. No large balloons were at this parade, as it featured only live animals from Central Park Zoo.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade also was not known as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade originally. It was because Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday season when Santa Claus was added at the end of the parade that the parade was known as Macy's Christmas Day Parade before the parade had a name change to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and is still considered a Thanksgiving tradition for families every year to see and watch on TV

I remember when opened their doors on the day after Thanksgiving at their normal hours. Yes, they were jumping with shoppers and the newspaper had flyers for stores inserted into their papers. Get this, on the Sunday after Thanksgiving the stores were CLOSED! They were closed on ALL of the Sundays throughout the holiday season, and if Christmas Eve was on a Sunday you'd better have your shopping done on December 23, Because the stores would not reopen until Tuesday, December 26.

Franklin thought that the eagle wasn't appropriate because it is a predatory bird. The turkey was dismissed as an option because turkeys are incredibly stupid.

Jake "Body By Jake" Steinfeld played the psycho killer in the 1981 Thanksgiving themed slasher Home Sweet Home.

Does that count as Thanksgiving Fun Facts?

I've heard that too. But if they did make the turkey the national bird, what would we eat on Thanksgiving? Because it's illegal to kill/eat a national bird.
