I was reading an magazine article in which a woman ate 10 cups of vegetables and fruit a day to help in her weight loss program. Imagine eating 10 cups a day. I eat about 10 cups a week.

Cool

Ever since I've done my weight loss and fitness regimen over the past year I have spent more time in the produce aisle than before in my life.

My favorite vegetables:

Broccolli
GREEN lettuce (NO iceberg!!)
onions (all kinds)
asparagus
sweet potatoes
beets

I have so many favorites. I am sure that certain ones we consider vegetables are in fact fruits: Squash (including zucchini and pumpkin), peppers, and tomatoes. I call them fregetables (because people confuse them for vegetables). Avacados are also fruits (a stone fruit due to the big seed inside).

They say that red and purple vegetables are very good for you. In fact all colors of vegetables are good for you.

I must say tomatoes are my favorite vegetable. Others are broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, lettuce, bell peppers...the only vegetable I don't like are some certain hot peppers.

I like almost all vegetables. I love zuccini, spaghetti squash, asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and okra the best. Yum!

I see someone mentioned zuccini. I think I have had zuccini, but I can't remember if I liked it.

Congrats on your weight loss!

My favorite vegetables are green peas (those are my absolute favorites), mixed vegetables, carrots, green beans, broccoli, celery, I love broccoli Normandy or whatever it's called with the carrots, cauliflower and broccoli mixed in.

I found an easy meal at the grocery store. Our store sells those small bags of frozen vegetables and sometimes you can get them 10 for $10. Much to the disgust and weird looks from my coworkers, I'll just take a whole bag to work and at lunch heat it up and eat it.

Sure!! Since October 17, 2010, when I was at 297.8 lbs, I have been able to drop to 181 over a month and half ago, so that was over 116 lbs!! Except currently, my weight has been hovering at 185 or above, between 186 and 187, but that has been due to gaining muscle mass. I don't have a flabby stomach anymore, and I've noticed that working on legs and thighs really builds up muscle. I alternate each day on muscle groups to work on, and make sure I eat a good supply of protein and vegetables. I made the mistake the other week of eating Red Baron French bread pizzas to celebrate my weight loss, which led to a few cinnamon rolls and scones--and my weight climbed back a little bit. But I was able to bring it back down. I try to eat more dark breads these days.

Thanks for the kind thoughts Andrea. I like a wide variety of veggies too but I gotta admit there's something kinda cool about the color cauliflowers. I like to microwave some florets and slices of zucchini in the microwave for a minute or two and then throw them in soup. And raw baby carrots rock my world. I like the starchy veggies too (corn, potatoes) but I have to eat them sparingly because they can make blood glucose rise quickly - not good for a pre-diabetic.

They are good for you! The colors are usually caused by compounds providing vast health benefits (anti-carcinogenic, lower risk of heart disease, help prevent Alzheimer's etc.) ESPECIALLY berries! It's hard to go wrong on a food plan high in non-starchy vegetables. And yes, many members of the produce family commonly thought of as veggies are actually fruits. Do you ever eat cherry heirloom tomatoes - I find they have a deep rich taste.

That is awesome!! You did it slowly and I think that's the only effective way to lose weight. I've lost about 100 lbs over the past few years, gained about 10 lbs over the holidays, but then got my bike back out that had been sitting in my garage collecting dust, been riding it every since and lost 15 lbs since Christmas. I'm a horrible eater, got a bad habit of snacking and eating late in the night. I know I really must stop that.
