Default Am I the only one noticing this?

Hey guys,

Surprised what i'm about to post hasn't set the board on fire, but I've noticed lately that some of the 1st and 10 guys are showing up in mainstream commercials and movies.

The guy who played Billy Cooper I think did an erectile dysfunction drug commercial.

The guy who played Jethro Snell was in the movie Barbershop allegedly (I've seen it a dozen times and don't recognize him)

And last but not least if you can't recognize Doc in the Capitol One commercials you need to go back and watch 1st and 10, AND Blood Sport.

Not to mention over the years several movies have had Mad Dog in them, most recently How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

I'm not surprised, this forum has never been a beehive of activity.

Hey gang,

I'm the O.P. on this, but lost my password so I had to make a new account. Another character showing back up is Yinessa currently playing the bad cop on Chicago Fire. Always enjoyed his work, and seeing him as a true blue villain was shocking. I was sad to just read that we lost Prince Huges. He was the one guy I had always wondered about.

In your face, “Ist & Ten”: HBO’s forgotten late 80s football sitcom starring O.J. Simpson

Quote:
Home Box Office, Inc., better known today as HBO, is one of the most successful cable TV networks of the past few decades, but you may already know that it took awhile for them to gain their large audience of subscribers, particularly since they didn’t have very much success with their attempts at original programming, and many of those early HBO TV shows are largely forgotten today, or remembered only by a loyal cult audience, even the ones that were aired more than a single season, including the focus of this post, a football-themed situation comedy — yes, a sitcom — called “1st & Ten.”

I think that shows like 1 and 10 or Brothers on Showtime from around that same period don't hold up well when compared to more recent stuff like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. These were cable's earliest attempts at creating original content and are in modern eyes, generally weak. I mean, without the occasional nudity and people saying the f-word, it would have been indistinguishable from routine prime-time network programming.

In fact, Brothers (which was considered cutting-edge given that it debuted a good decade before Ellen and Will & Grace) seems awfully tame and not so out of place on a broadcast network if it were to air as it was today.

Brothers holds up just as well with other shows from its decade, and comparing it to shows like Breaking Bad and Game Of Thrones is idiotic. What next? Comparing SOAP to The Walking Dead?
