Lightbulb Facebook For Dummies

This thread is basically dealing with the things it took me over two years to realize about facebook, while most others i know realized them in two days. Basically a guidebook for facebook dummies like myself. i never was one to pay much attention to detail.

i will share some of my discoveries in a bit. If you are a dummy like me, please feel free to share yours too.

Question

This isn't the kind of stuff that i had in mind for this thread, but i think it fits.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to post your thoughts on something without getting peoples responses?

i love hearing my friends thoughts, but i also think it would be nice to be able to share just my thoughts from time to time. i sometimes like to just have people think, and not talk. i do this alot myself.

i know you could do this on MySpace, but for the life of me, i can't find anywhere where you can do this on facebook. Thanks!!

That's so cool that you are joining ponytail! i had to get someone to talk me into joining too, even though i didn't want to, not just cause i was shy, but i just didn't think i'd like it. Now i'm an addict, and have gotten five or ten people to join who also were hesitant, and now they love it too!! Hope it's the same for you.

And you are very welcome. i was hoping someone might be able to get some use out of this, so now i'm even more eager to share. Hope you are having a great one ponytail!!

Here's a couple things iv'e learned. DO NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS!!! There was a point where it seemed like everybody thought that every post i ever wrote was about them. This isn't just a problem with me, but most everyone on facebook. The paranoia level in this world has gone up 1000% since the popularity boom of facebook a few years ago. When i write deep posts, i speak mostly of my lifelong battle with satan, and demons, and the world as a whole, and rarely speak of any one person specifically. Many times even, i'm speaking of myself, to try and get things through to my thick skull. Humbling myself, and lambasting myself publicly every once in awhile often helps me greatly.

Also, you WILL notice several people who are no longer your friend. Do not freak out. 90% of the time, your friends accounts are just on hold, and they are not available to anyone. Don't make an ass of yourself like i did once, and complain about them deleting you as a friend. In all likelihood, they'll show up a day or two later, and you'll feel like the biggest dummy on the planet. Just a couple for you, there will be plenty more, i guarantee it!! lol

Here's another one that just came to my mind. There is no edit option on facebook. i can be very paranoid, and sometimes think this is intentional. That they have no edit option, because they want you to offend your friends, and have no way of editing it to make them feel better. Hence the name, Youtube, not WeTube. lol

Anyway, i just posted something and i wish i would have edited it first. it was one of those, keep it up for awhile, and only my real friends will respond things. i don't like that, when there is a good message, there should be no motives, conditions, and certainly no personal ego, instead we should just share something for the benefit of others. Afterall, what if one of your friends aren't online in that hour?? That's an insult to them, and to everyone who didn't get a chance to read it.

So yeah, read and review everything very carefully before clicking post. It'll save you alot of trouble, and many more friendships.

DON'T AIR DIRTY LAUNDRY!

Here's another lesson iv'e learned the hard way on many occasions. Not everything is meant to be shared publicly, thus the private messaging feature. This can obviously be said for every social networking site, but it seems that many never learn. If you need to say something personal, or potentially hurtful to a sensitive person, take it off the boards. i actually got this advice from many of you here, and i thank you, and i think more than ever, it needs to be shared on facebook. Another thing that unnecessarily damages, and ruins relationships on a daily basis.

Also be careful what you say about others. If your account isn't private, and you get too personal, something about your boss, your roomate, a former friend, etc, you will eventually get screwed, because they will find out. Even if your account is private, you'll still be screwed. All it takes is one of your friends to know who you are talking about, and if you upset that one friend, nine out of ten times they will tell on you.

Thankfully i mostly have great friends who don't do this, but not everybody is that lucky sadly. Many lives have been ruined for airing this garbage publicly, losing great jobs, roomates, people going homeless, you name it. Eventually it will come back and bite you in the ass, GUARANTEED!
