In that episode Dwayne had a letter from Denise, And he was thinking that he could talk her into going back to school. The whole point of the episode was for Whitely to get to her dads wedding and for her to REALLY HATE Monica (whitley's stepmom). Also for Dwayne and Whitely to start their love triangle.

Denise left at the beginnig of her junior year and Brian I do agree. Dwayne and Whitley would have wound up together.
